And of course the one time we want the government to actually work for the people, they will not. Instead, they'll bomb some brown children that day.

Great use of taxpayer dollars. I actually don't blame the white house for this, I blame the Bieber haters.

While most petitions are serious in nature, past petitions also include "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus being made the new National Anthem and the government constructing a Death Star to increase jobs.

With regards to the Death Star, the White House said it would cost $850,000,000,000,000,000 to make and thus, would not be moving forward with the proposition. You know the response to this Bieber deportation petition will be probably just as funny.

Does Justin Bieber actually have a green card (permanent residency) or does he have just have a residency visa? It will be difficult to deport him if he has permanent residency.

In Hong Kong it's impossible to be deported if you have permanent residency, but from what I understand in the US it is possible to still be deported as a permanent residency. However Justin Bieber's crimes are not serious enough to warrant deportation, and a non legally binding petition won't change that.

The rule of law might be watered down in the USA, but it still exists.

He wasn't drunk. His blood alcohol level was tested at .014 and .011 which is less than the .02 for underage drinkers and .08 for everyone else. He also wasn't drag racing, as the GPS unit has shown exactly how fast he was going and video surveillance from the area shows he wasn't doing anything wrong at the time. So they say he might now face one misdemeanor charge for resisting arrest without violence

For example I have HK permanent residence. I can not be deported regardless of what crimes I commit. I have right of abode in Hong Kong. However if I did not have permanent residence, it would be very easy to get rid of me.

Americans need to stop being ignorant dumbasses and learn what a green card means.
Actually, you are only partly right. If your greencard was given within the last 5 years (in the US) and you committed a crime of 'moral turpitude' or two crimes at any time after obtaining a green card, then you can be deported. There are also plenty of other reasons, even just being a drug addict even if not convicted.

I have no idea of the case and came only to make fun of those who care, but I figured I'd correct that misconception.

I haven't been back to the US for 8 years now. So I think you have your answer.

Norway is a wonderful place to live if you're a worker. Hong Kong is a wonderful place to live if you're an entrepreneur and also happen to love East Asia.

Yeah, many countries give residents tons of rights (I believe in Canada you can even vote with a permanent residency), but the US does not. Check this out for an article that will give you some perspective:

Permanent Residents can't vote in Canada. They also need to spend 75% of the time of any 4yr block in Canada or risk losing their residency when they try to renew it, and can have it revoked if they commit certain classes of felony. That's pretty much it though

Jesus. The USA loves to preach human rights, but they certain don't practice them.

Yeah in HK, as a PR I have voting rights. Reading this is just heart breaking. I'm glad I left.

Oh wow. Yeah in HK no matter what kind of crime you commit, you can't have your permanent residency revoked or be deported.

However you need to come to HK once every 36 months to maintain your permanent residency if you are not a Chinese. Otherwise you lose it, and you become a regular resident subject to immigration controls. You do gain your PR back if you live in HK for 7 years again though.

Compared to the EU, US, etc this is clearly a very relaxed policy though.

Did the law recently change? I thought it was they had to spend 3 years out of every 5 in Canada? When did the 4 year thing start?

And getting your PR status revoked is actually quite difficult. Definitely possible, but doesn't happen at the whim of an immigration officer. There's a lengthy process before you're PR status is officially revoked. Then again, there's a lengthy process to get PR status in the first place, so I guess it evens out.

You may be right on the 3 of 5 thing. I know for getting Citizenship as a Resident that its 75% of 4 years, as I just went through the process myself. The retention of Residency may be a little less as I cant remember my last renewal to that much detail. And yes, it's not an instantaneous process having residency revoked, I was just saying that with many felonies it's an option and in some cases it does happen.

Agreed. A very rare bang for the taxpayer buck.

I'd back deportation even if Bieber gets acquitted by the judge, exonerated by the President, and hermetically absolved by a united council of churchmen and atheists.

Nope. He shouldn't be deported. Deportation shouldn't be used as a tool to punish celebrities we don't like.

I don't see what all the fuss is about... If the Whitehouse put as much effort as they do replying to these laughable demands, they might actually get the country on the right track.. just saying.

-----
WH Remarks: We are not in a position to get involved in the situation with Mr. Bieber at this time. It up to the criminal court(s) and the immigration and naturalization court or law to decide on any action that would deem Mr. Bieber unable to be in the United States. We certainly hope that Mr. Bieber recognizes the serious nature of the charges before him and wish him all the best.

I mean srsly guy's...
