Just a Question

Are there going to be ads placed on these forums? Or is it one of those 'doing it for the fun of it' forums?

If the guys are still going ahead with the subscription section of this forum I hope that a subscriber can choose whether to see ads or not...

I don't mind a few ads here and there in general but I think webmasters don't click many ads.

What?! Another Sub for me to buy? Haha.. just playing. Anyways, the option is nice but I never spend the extra money on it. Ads here and there never bother me.

Just no pop-ups please... Sitepoint has them and I hate it.

Yeah, I agree with Vin, ads are fine, but popups suck. Sitepoint is really annoying about ads.

Some adwords or the sort at the top and/or bottom of the pages wouldn't be bad. But the contextual shit is annoying, and popups definiately suck. If the site can be sustained just by subscriptions, I think that'd be a great route to go.

I don't really care about ads, as long as they're not jumping around and interfering with my reading of regular content.

I doubt Jon really feels that he'll make too much money from ads on this site and he'll probably not put any up at all.
It's more about sharing knowledge, methinks.

Yeah, I think I remember Jon saying no ads ... or maybe that was for his blog. I find it much easier to navigate on a forum without ads, or at least very subliminal ones.

The ads are going to cover any costs that the forum has on it's own (servers to keep it fast as hell). It will also cover cash contests, apparel (and shipping costs). I'm also donating a portion of it to charities, because let's face it, they can use it more than we can. I want the forum to be self sufficient in all ways possible.
