| Suggestion Box Have feedback on how to make the forum better? Well, chances are pretty good we won't read it, because this is just here for show to pretend that we "care". But maybe by some chance one of our mods will be bored enough, look at it, and use the idea. |

Chasing the long tail

Lets make good posts and reputation mean something.
Recently there is a new asshat hijacking tons of threads. It is not that he is being confrontational (which he is) it is that he is just talking shit and not adding anything at all meaningful. I dont really care to read his shit. I want to put him on ignore, which is not nearly enough, especially if others respond to him. Why can lots and lots of well respected members call him out on this shit and he is still here? Why not make the ability to post frequently be reputation based. Get negative rep from someone with rep above a certain level and you can only post once an hour for 6 hours afterwards. Get negative rep from five people in a certain time frame and you can only post once a day for a week. It is like timeouts for kids. These guys are acting like children. They can ruin a discussion in no time and hurt the value of the board to new people. Why are we letting them do this. Treat them like the children they are. Take it so far as banning people and even related IP's if that becomes an issue. Make it where negative rep means something to both the person giving and receiving the rep. Make it where any user can only give negative rep so often. Put something in place to make sure it is not being misused. Define when negative rep should or should not be used. Lots of cool things could be attached to rep, currently it is meaningless. |

Not sure how well that would work because I've been negged in a spammy thread just for saying something...even though I can see who did it now I will let karma works itself out. yeah you know who your are.

I agree that it should be more meaningful. There are a lot of great threads being ruined by people with comments that don't contribute anything, not to mention all the replies ripping on said asshat. Either shut the fuck up and leave, or add some constructive criticism. If you have a problem with what someone posted being too "newbish" then post something more advanced genious, or don't post at all.
