getting confused with different opinions...........some seniors say its better to learn SEO and get traffic thereby save money .............others say ppc is the way.....its very confusing for someone new........plz guide me which is the way to go?

not much money...so cant waste......still making some profit on a ppc campaign......so wat do u advice...........keep improving the campaign or first learn ppc from someone?

@barman, well played.

"learning" ppc or failing as I like to call it takes awhile and is more trial and error than anything else, so if money is an issue don't play that game yet. the best way to get started is flipping domains with small sites, you can make $100-200 per site and after 5 of those you have a decent war chest to start with.

seo is a little simpler in my opinion, but ranking for keywords and linkbuilding can take months sometimes to see conversions. eventually you are going to want to be a master of both but my opinion is to start with flipping sites and seo until you can afford to lose a few bucks to the adsense monster.

thanks alex.......n flipping domains......i mean building them into small sites........i have some but how do i monitorise them so that i can sell them?

It shouldnt be case of one or the other. If you have the budget do both and use the findings of one campaign to drive the other. This can work very well if you know what you are doing and good at analysis.....

The advantage of doing SEO is that you can outsource most of the grunt work (articles, directory submissions, etc.).

I'd never outsource PPC work though.

When I first got started in day trading my father called those horrific first southbound trades my "tuition." I think it carries over into PPC as well, especially PPC for CPA. I have done fairly well with PPC for buy now conversions off of specific physical products and ClickBank stuff, but PPC to CPA is largely burning a hole in my pocket.

As far as whether to go SEO or PPC, I don't even look at them as comparative. SEO is great for long-term traffic building, and long-term traffic is great for site value -- assuming you also eventually have a viable monetisation strategy to implement. Traffic without an offer is almost as worthless as an offer without traffic. But if you already have a good offer and have found a good market for it, then PPC is the fastest way to test and tweak your marketing efforts and get making money now.

Frank is absolutely correct, I have seen so many people come to these forums with projects that simply won't make money. Whether you get your traffic from PPC or SEO, you need to make sure your landing page or project are going to convert - otherwise you may aswell get back to the day job.

hi tedel how to develop pages which convert well........i mean what u got to focus more.......the products.......the demand? or webdesign ?........or any place where can i learn how to make landing pages that convert well?

I won't tell all of my secrets but I can give you two very basic ones:

1. as for code, switch to xhtml
2. as for the site, remember your objective is to get the sale, not to show off.

I learnt to make different designs by reading a couple of books. Start with "Search Engine Optimization, an hour a day.", by... sorry, I don't remember the author. That's a good one.

getting a strong backlink from yahoo is better or backlink from your niche best site is better?

I wasnt sure if Yahoo is still listing sites in the directory. I would NOT do that now.

It used to work well in some categories. But that is so 2001. I dont even know if that would help now. It appears they are: https://ecom.yahoo.com/dir/submit/intro That page is like a bad flashback for me. Yahoo is about to be bought out. Or have their traffic decrease more. Or both. Dont do anything with them. Even PPC is probably a waste of time setting up with them.

Get links from free nichy sites is better. Or maybe some paid directories. But those are a waste of time mostly.

thanx Drake.........i have read Aaron Wall saying the yahoo backlink helps since google recognises such websites as genuine.......so basically u mean to say getting unique content and good landing pages?
