On the firing line
Okay, so I've been doing the porn thing for the last few months (prolly why you haven't seen much of me here) and have learned a thing or two that I would be willing to share.

If you are SERIOUS about wanting to learn the adult industry from a webmaster and affiliate view, feel free to contact me. I'm not going to charge anybody anything, but I am going to limit the number of people that I deal with to 5.

You're probably thinking "So, what's the catch?" The only "catch" is you have to sign up under my affiliate ID's for the sites you want to promote. So, I'm under the gun to help you make money, or else I've wasted my time. I've got well over 100 different sponsors, so there are plenty of choices. Plus, I can help you decide which would be the best fit for your site, so that you don't have to spend a bunch of time trying to figure it out.

Here are some of the things we'll talk about:
  1. How to get traffic (my main site is getting over 6900 uniques per month after the 2nd month of active promotion, and a brand new site I started less than a week ago is getting 40 uniques/day with ZERO promotion)
  2. How to filter that traffic
  3. How to build sites
  4. What software is worthwhile and what sucks
  5. Some "secrets" that have generated a ton of traffic for me to sponsors
Anyhow, I don't want to turn this into a sales pitch, cuz to be honest, I don't give a shit if you contact me or not. However, for those truly interested in the adult niche, there is still money to be made and I don't mind sharing. Just one thing...please, don't waste my time.

Email me - webmaster /at/ pornogothica.com - if you are interested in this opportunity.

~Mike~

PS. check out www.PornoGothica.com to get a first hand look at one of my sites. And you know what, it's not very good, but it makes money. :D

Dice, even if Mike is only a few months into the market he still knows more than someone starting out with nothing.

You're right, but that's just one site.

So far, I've made $0 in my first month (couldn't figure out my ass from a hole in the ground) a little over $125 in my second month, and approximately $150 - 200 for Oct (3rd month). Please note, this is in a niche that "everyone" said was played out and too competitive. Also, see below for the real reason why I made so little. If I had concentrated on a different type of sponsor I would have made much more.

My ultimate goal in teaching others is also learning myself. So, you could say I have an ulterior motive. By passing what you have learned to others you reinforce the things you've learned and you also bring more brains into the mix, thus adding fresh ideas into the mix.

I feel that I have mastered enough of the basics and have enough resources to help someone get off of the ground and make money in their first month, instead of them stumbling through the first few months like I did.

There are actually a lot of ways that you can promote an adult business without a surfer ever hitting your main site. This is sometimes a good thing and other times bad. For one sponsor I got over 145 signups in the past 30 days. This sponsor is one that pays me 20% commission for as long as the surfer spends money on their site. So, the initial signup doesn't equal cash like other sponsors, but I like them because their program is designed for long term payouts. Other sponsors pay $40 per signup as soon as a surfer hands over their cc number. These are handy for making a quick buck, but to be honest, I have put very little time into these sponsors. Other sponsors pay a revenue share of 50 - 70% per surfer, so the initial signup may only be $15, but for each month they rebill the surfer you get another $15. So, another subject I want to cover with people is how to split their time amongst the three types of payouts to maximize their monthly earnings. I purposely did not work on the latter two types of sponsors this month, because I was experimenting with the best way to get signups for the first type and also to see what kind money those signups were worth in hard cash. The nice thing about this experiment is it didn't cost me a cent of bandwidth, and I had over 50,000 views this month (estimated). I'll cover that also.

Anyhow, I'm not offering the world here, and I'm not saying you're going become and instant millionaire. My point is, there is money in porn, and I can help you avoid a lot of the newbie pitfalls. And hopefully by helping you, I'll learn more and thus make more $$ myself.

6900 uniques per month is definitely not enough traffic for the porn industry. A friend of mine runs a porn blog and receives about 50k uniques a day and gets on average 1 sale a day. From my research porn converts 1:10,000 just because most people are surfing for free content.

1:10,000 ? Wow that's terrible. I thought even bottom barrel TGP traffic converts at 1:1,000.

Most of my sales have been conversions of 1:300 or less. Although I did have one that was 1:2100 (approx) the other day. Porn conversions are not that horrible. Check out GreenGuy and Jim, they've got a list of their sponsors, and I don't think a single one converts worse than 1:3000. Actually they break it down to even each site the sponsor has.

That is just the traffic to one site, it does not include all the views I get from stuff that is not on my site. There is more than one way to skin a cat. I probably get 5 - 10 views off site for every 1 onsite.

Some does, prolly closer to 1:2000. Take a look at the stats on GG&J. That'll give everyone a better idea what porn conversions really are, rather than just guessing.

It is hard to get a real understanding of what people can realisitically expect from looking at GG&Js stats breakdown. They are professionals and know how to filter their traffic appropriately and channel it to the right offers etc.

Most people that are starting out in porn are relegated to worst porn traffic there is. They basically are stuck making galleries for TGPs or things of that nature.

Could always try PPC arbitrage for porn however =)

If your converting at around 1:300 your doing pretty well. I am an affiliate marketing manager for a major player in the adult industry and alot of our seasoned guys don't do that well anymore. The key with adult is targeting a specfic microniche and then exploiting every aspect of it.

6900 uniques a month is not alot in the adult world, if you are talking about a TGP or a free site, however, if you are targeting a specific niche and you know what your traffic is looking for it should be enough to bring you in a pocket full of beer money every month. The next step in the process tho, is build and keep building until you swear your fingers will fall off, when they do, you are done. ;)

Great work!!

That's a good point, but there are other sources out there besides just TGP's. LinkLists, TGP2's, PicPosts, MGP's, etc.

If you want a list of decent TGPs and LL's, checkout: www.MY-XXX.org/webmasters.php

It looks like I have my 5, but if you are still interested feel free to hit me up and I can point you in the direction of some good tutes and resources.

Those are some of the worst stats I've ever heard of and I have been doing adult for a few years now.

I have to agree, I don't think I have ever heard of anyone doing 1:50k, hell I would have given up at about 1K uniques a day and chalked it up as I just didn't get it as opposed to keep working on something that I obviously wasn't getting the grasp of.

Hi SEO_Mike, if I can see proof of your sales, conversion, traffic, etc. I'm definitely interested. I'll send you a pm.

Thanks
Jose
