Hi all,just read a couple of e-books on affiliate marketing,Im still unclear whether I should use an add to send traffic to the vendor or build a website.
Would I have to get a domain name for just an add?

I suggest you forget about the internet and go with newspaper advertising, or perhaps flyers you can post to telephone poles.

interesting point, marketing offline. there is someone claims it works but I never try it so I don't know for sure, but for affiliate marketing one advice

do NOT ever drive traffic directly to the merchants site, develop a squeeze page or opt-in page to capture your visitors so that you can follow them through otherwise you left money on your table definitely, there is some good FREE resources about this information: which I came across a week ago, whole lot of useful free information, you may want to have a look,

==> http://www.prosoncheng.com/Free-home-business-sucess-system

note: there is a lot of one time offer, you don't need to take them, or actually i don't want you to buy them in fact I didn't take any of those i just read the training articles and that's it.

I hope you find this information useful

Nobody thought about writing the URL on one's forehead... pretty damn effective.

Ok, on a more serious note... this is your first post and you said "ebooks". People around here don't really like IM ebooks (neither do I), so prepare for a bit of bashing.
Answering (finally) your question... You should probably build a website. I don't think direct linking on Adwords is a great idea...
