Advanced Sorting In Wordpress?

Im toying with the idea of building some 'catalogue sites' - Basically sites with a rather large amount of pages... and Im wondering of Wordpress would be sufficient.

For example let's say I want to build a movie site. I'd want people to be able to sort and filter down the results nicley.

Like by rating AND category/tag (top thrillers)
Or by rating, category/tag AND date (top comedies 2006).

After searching around, I saw a 'WP sort' plugin that looked pretty sketchy. I'd rather not leave something like this to a plugin since they may not be updated and the code may suck. Would something like Jamoola be better for a site like this?

Drupal + CCK + Views will enable you to do that without any custom coding. For something like that I usually code something up myself. This makes importing your data a lot easier (usually) and you have more control over how your data is displayed.

That said ... underboobs FTW
 
Wordpress custom taxonomies would do that just fine.
There are probably better solutions, but the easy of use and extendability of wordpress is hard to overlook.
 
wow, Drupal looks powerful. I've never really looked at it because Ive always been building crappy Wordpress sites, but holy fuck it looks like you could build some next level shit

l3msip - just looked at a tutorial for custom taxonomies. Looks great! Will definitely up my WP skills
