So, I have finally decided to advertise my website--I sell mainly academic books. I know that if I am doing PPC arbitrage I should not pay more then .10 a click. I have not seen a discussion though on how much I should pay when I am not doing arbi. Any thoughts on how much I should pay?

Thanks for the quick response James.

I understand the part about maximizing my return on my investment (ROI). I was actually wondering what CPC people here start with. Google recommends $1.25+ which I find to be to high. Should I instead start with $0.10 and see what kind of clicks I get or should I start the bidding higher.

And the ROI is convoluted to calculate since I am not selling any thing with the ad, but am instead offering a free service which will provide returns down the line for my site.

0,10 $ per click????hmmm...sound very interesting!please send me a pm with more information!I am very interested!

$0.10 is normally to low to even get impressions on your campaigns with some keywords that you will chose. The amount you pay depends on how much profit you can make from your site. It's no good spending $1 per visitor when all you will make back from them is $0.20 as you will be loosing money this way and will soon be another site that was here one minute and gone the next.

If you don't make enough from your site, then maybe you want to use alternative advertising for it. It's always best to try Adwords first though as you will never know if you don't try.

Why not try starting an affiliate program and pay a percentage of your sales to affiliates? Sounds like Shareasale.com is right up your alley.

I have been an affiliate with ShareASale for over 4 years and have never had on issue with them. Their payouts are doing monthly and are on time, every time. What a great network they are, but unfortuntely do not have many CPC programs, they have around 250 CPA programs, but some of them at not that good. ShareASale is more for the CPS programs and they also offer datafeeds.
