Affiliate links and SEO ?

90% of the time they will not effect your rankings. Personally I wouldn't even use an affiliate link on your blog. I would 301 (and mask) a domain you have to your affiliate link. That way you can also build up PR to your domain (from inbound links) instead of to the hoplink. This also shows users a real domain instead of a affiliate link.

*facepalm* Hoplinks are for Clickbank... Yes, you can 301/2 to Clickbank products and build your PR without having to do anywork, but if you're doing anything other than Shitbank, you can't exactly do that for an effective campaign.
Especially if you're attempting to drive traffic by Adwords...
If you're marketing real world items, via CJ or Share a Sale or some such, then just use the nofollow attribute in your anchor tags, and it won't pass the juice on.

I have Clickbank and CJ... why does redirecting work for Clickbank but not for others like CJ?

I have a domain for which i created many pages, each page targeting specific keywords. Now, when i link to my sponsor with affiliate links I fear I might be helping THEM ranking for the keywords I target, so what i do is use nofollow tag on my url.
However, maybe this is just a coincidence, but i noticed that some of my pages for which i did not use nofollow were getting good traffic, so perhaps not using the nofollow has some advantages because google see that you are linking to relevant content ?
Also concerning the technique mentionned above ( redirecting to another domain you own )

There are also plugins for wordpress which will let you create fake url such as www.mydomain.com/keyword-product-name to which you can associate another redirect url with youre affiliate link...

I use subdirectory->php redirect to all my affiliate links as well as the nofollow attribute. And if I'm feeling extra paranoid, I'll restrict access to those subdirectories via htaccess. Then I wrap my site in tinfoil.
