All registered domains on a file

Howdy,
I know this sounds too good to be true, but is there any free resource for downloading lists of all registered .com or all .net etc. domains?
Also, do you know how services that show "recently expired domains" operate and get their information?

Do you know how big a file that contained that information would be? Your hard drive wouldn't even be able to handle it.
