What is the best online resource that you can recommend to explain the very basics of SEO, black hat, white hat and whatever hats there are?

I have basic knowledge of these things, but need an understanding of the nitty-gritty and how to apply them.

Yes, I know how much you guys loathe e-books, so I'm sure you'll recommend one.

slightlyshadyseo.com is good and bluehatseo.com even though its a lot of advance techniques and hard to understand it will teach you a lot even if you only get 1/4 of what he is saying.

Never heard of blue hat.

See, this is what throws me off, in spite of my desire to learn. The tech side of running an internet business, and the terms and minutiae really confuse me, which is I asked for a primer to learn these from the beginning.

I have several niches ready to develop, I know who my targeted market is, and the ability to write my own content. Those are my strengths, but there's the other stuff... :crap:

How's John Chow's e-book? Worth downloading?

Read SEOmoz Blog, Slightlyshadyseo's Blog. Bluehatseo.com and keep an eye on sphinn.

I guess that will be enough to get you started.

That's about like saying you want to work on your OBDII computer fuel/emission system on your new Mazda Truck...TODAY, with no knowledge or experience, and not screw it up. I know you want to real bad, and you're pretty handy with a wrench and a hammer. however...

You either have to invest in yourself for the technical knowledge or hire someone to do it for you. It will be neither easy nor quick unless you are a genius. They might only be 1s and 0s but they will eat your ffing lunch.

I have hired; somebody's doing a site for me. I just need to understand the technical stuff a little better.

Check out nicky's blog, and read every thread in the WF Treasure sticky that I think is up top in this sub forum.

AM for the simple mind. I say get a domain for a product, say, coffee makers, write blog posts about them for wordpress, send traffic to ebay, amazon, CJ's product merchants... and learn from there.

Fuck. Don't you have other forums to sling that shit on? I learned very early in noooby WF life not click on any mother fuck'n link you suggest.

Yeah, it takes a real genius to check links before clicking them.

I have spent the last four days reading this whole fucking forum, doing little else. I haven't gone out, or changed out of my bed clothes, but I'm learning a lot.

My knowledge has more holes than swiss cheese, but there is a bit of cheese to speak of.

Great forum - full of info and some laughs.

seobook, hands-down. i dont think its for sale as a book anymore though. a ripped copy should be available somewhere if you want to check it out...

for black hat, syndk8 seems to be the best resource out there
