I'm about to start testing them but wanted a clarification on how credit for a sale is given. Say I have amazon link that directs to book. A person clicks on my link but doesn't buy the book I directed them to. But they then start browsing Amazon and buy $200 worth of tools.

Do I get credit for the $200 sale of tools since my affiliate cookie would be the most current? Or do I get nothing since my link was just for the book?

Amazon only gives you credit for the sale if a person clicks on your link AND buys something in the same "session". If that person leaves the site, and then comes back later, you don't get commission for the sale. As far as I know, they don't use cookies.

I doubt you'd get sale for the tools, but that's only a guess. Amazon is tricky and a very shitty affiliate program.

Hope that helped.

I'm pretty sure you will get the $200 credit if its in the same session.
When I was running amazon on an old gaming site of mine I got credit for a few software and comic book sales that had nothing to do with the product I had linked to.

You're likely to get credit if it's the same session.

I've read of bloggers who put tech items in their astore and they find themselves getting credit for shower curtains and other funny stuff.
their conclusion was that the CTRs on their items results in purchases for other items.

Failing which, you can do a simple test and put up a link for one item and get a friend to go through the link and buy a different low cost item and see if you get credit.

you should try another merchant, amazon treats their affiliates like shit. They have low payouts, they charge a $15 processing fee when they write you a check, and they pay quarterly. They convert pretty decent for me, but the payouts suck so bad its not worth it for me.

I was selling roomba vacuums and i sold $3000 worth of vacuums and i just got my first $120 check from them, which they took out $15.
Bullshit

that's definitely true.

and their new monthly payouts fuck you over even more because it resets back to 4% every month

Amazon.com says "As part of this change, referral fee tiers will be adjusted to reflect monthly instead of quarterly item quantities"
