I would say.... YES.
Aside for a few people who are much more mobile tech savvy and actually care about the content and how it streams in, they are the only ones I know of that use the .mobi. Everyone else... doesn't. And yes, because of iPod's full browser technology, you can bet your ass that if the other phone manufacturers and app makers follow suit, then that will be the quick hype and blowout of the .mobi gold rush. I've been holding back on buying some really good gems I found available, but at the same time, I ran and acquired a TON of .fm's and .am's, and that whole market is still waaaaay in it's infancy. Since I don't own any 1 char or 2 chars for it, it looks like it's going to be a long wait.
But I think the industry still needs a lot of maturing and growing up to do overall. Hell, .net, .org, .us, .info, .de, .co.uk and maybe even .fr's are all just starting to catch on, meaning, you'll start seeing more of those than you will of lame .mobi's. So yeah, I consider it a waste of time and cash.
