I have seen several veterans on here suggest doing social bookmarking blasts. How exactly does that help my site rank? Does it give popularity or authority juice? Backlink juice?

Also, what's the best strategy for implementing - how often, which sites and best services to use.

well social bookmarking is very good for indexing your site article. And when you post bookmarking blast. It will also creates some good inbound links to your content,So this is very good way to gain the attention of SE bots and improve your site ranking.
 
These types of links, especially built in larger numbers around the same time period, create a pattern that looks very similar to a website/story going viral. This is good because unnatural patterns may attract unwanted attention by the search engines.

Building a lot of links while staying under the spam radar is extremely powerful.
 
You get a little PR juice (very little).
You get a little Authority juice (if you hit the big boy sites).
You get robots indexing (since these sites are crawled like a mofo).
You get a backlink and ip diversity (I'm using parenthesis here to stay consistent).
You might get some traffic (since people actually use the top sites).
 
There are many benefits of social bookmarking as other have mentioned.
To use services there are many services to use in free and for paid also, but in starting you should try by your self manually on high PR sites, estimate the result and get experienced to use tools and services.
 
Indeed, social bookmarking websites is one very good channel for driving traffic to the website.

Since bookmarking websites are social media websites... Getting active on bookmarking websites boost your social media reputation and hence your website rankings.
 
Social bookmarking is the quickest way to boost any website serp if your story submitted in quality sites but many bookmarking sites don't provide the permanent links so it's not durable but it is a good source of getting heave traffic.
 
I will share my experience!
My keyword rank was 50 and after took Socialbookmarking service it got 20th rank which was really what i wanted.
 
Think about what a social bookmark is. It's like a bookmark for your browser but it's "social" so it's sharable/visible via a web page.

So basically you're saying, hey I think this site gay webmaster forum is cool.

And they're popular because they don't require any content to go along with the link. Not requiring unique content makes it easier to automate the sign-up and post process.

social bookmarking is good to get higher ranking in search engines, and for new blogs to index posts fast :D

Edit: you will not get traffic - its not guaranteed, only few sites gives traffic, from dofollow SB sites you can get backlink

Social Bookmarking is the best way to get indexed.

This is also helpful as search engines are getting your link signals from various domains and various ips.

Do it manually and do it properly than you will get the benefit.

Remember social bookmarking is one of the part of link building and you should not expect that with only social bookmarking your website will rank at no 1.
 
Social bookmarking is good if we do it in the rite way. It can give rapid rise in serp for a short period. Let me find some good bookmarker so i can tell the current situation.
