i have a 0fees.net account which doesnt force any ads.
Free hosting doesn't need to have "forced ads", or "crap service", if you understand marketing you'll know that free web hosting is a great tactic to upsell your paid services.
Think about it, you seet up a free experimental blog on your free webspace, you put on adsense, and start earning bucks. Then you want to set up anotyher few blogs to make money from.. what do you do?? That's right buy a pro account from your free webhost.
BTW, I don't host any of my money making sites on a free host, I use it to test out scripts to make sure they work properly, before putting tthem up on my real server.
I'm cuyrrently with tsohost.co.uk
but they only allow up to 6 add-on domains/sites on their packagae (which sucks)
So I'm going to buy an account from either bluehost or hostgator, as I'm almost running out.
