Don't start anything without at least a basic plan of how you are going to market it, what your primary demographic is, etc.

Yeah! It’s very good thought to promote your business through popular sites. You can give banner ads to the popular sites that allow for it. I can suggest you a site called PastJob :: Have your say. . It has good traffic and potential TV coverage. Hope this will help in your business development process.

To the OP: Just read on the threads you'll find here and you will surely be guided accordingly. Submitting your sites to directories, forum and blog participation, social bookmarking could be a nice start to build backlinks and get some traffic from them. This will also help you in SEO in the long run
