Hey so I’m going through the keyword planner, the second option “Enter or upload keywords to see how they perform” and would be very grateful if someone would be able to explain this section to me.

I click on the Get estimates button, but cant figure out what the column headings are such as clicks, avg position, cost, CTR, CPC etc. I gather that the clicks refers to number of clicks for that KW, impressions is the no of times on avg an add featuring that KW would be shown, but I don’t get what is avg position (how can it be avg position in SERPS, that depends on links/anchor text etc, right?) and cost (what is this cost thing).

Finally why does the CPC shown here differ from the CPC that is shown when I use other part of the Keyword planner tool i.e. “Search for keyword and ad group ideas”?

Can you guys help me out?

The theory with the estimator thingy is you'll input the keywords, and associated cost and it will give you an estimate of your overall campaign.

CTR - Estimated click thru rate (usually a percentage). This is the percentage of ad viewers that will click on your AD, in their estimates, and land in your landing page.

Avg Position - estimated by the time of day, and cost you inputed, this is the LIKELY average position your AD will appear on in Google Ads. For example:

In this instance, there are 3 Ads at the top in the light orange/yellow high - ABOVE the organic searches. Those are position 1, 2, and 3. On the right hand side we have a new type of Advertisement, with 6 photos, underneath that are the remaining Google Ads, positions 4, 5, 6, and 7 (8, 9, and 10 were cut off OR maybe considered as the 6 image ads, I'm not 100%).

CPC - Cost Per Click. The cost of each click from a Google visitor to your landing page. It's differs depending on your filters.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.
