Can you make money with PPC SE' with direct linking to a site ? & other questions....

Hey guys, new here.

I'm wondering if you can make money with setting up an ad in Adwords or Yahoo Search marketing and linking directly to a promoted product?
Like you bid for a related keyword and then instead of linking to your landing page, you link directly to a product with your referral code?

another question, did Yahoo merge with Bing ? So promoting things in Yahoo, displays your ad also on Bing, or do I get it wrong? I just vaguely heard about it few months ago.

finally, what's hot nowadays? I had very slight experience in affiliate marketing, but that was years ago. Is there any way nowadays to do PPC SE marketing for a newbie, if all the good keywords for the hot products cost a few few dollars per click?
I don't really get how a newbie can make money promoting "Teeth whitening" with PPC SE, when the payout is $40 and you're paying 5 bucks per click... it surely seems like a way to just burn your budget..

so here goes.

1. yes you can direct link, however, this only works with some offers (and there are ALWAYS exceptions so dont take this definitively). These offers are usually ringtones, etc. but with products like Weight Loss or Work at Home schemes, you want to soften the viewer up with a nice sales pitch, dont forget, this IS marketing after all.

2. i heard about some merger last year but haven't really been following it.

3. Ask your affiliate Manager. Dont have one? then your a bit behind.

and about the teeth whitening thing, thats because "teeth whitening" isnt very creative, its blunt, to the point, and it will get you lots of clicks, but your broad targetting. you just gotta find a better keyword or even target similar products.
