I have a relative who is a professional athlete. He plays in the NHL.

He's been in for 3 years or so and I was doing some checking today and discovered that www.xxxxxxxxxx.com - his full name in the xxxxxxx part - is registered by some random dude in California.

Naturally the site is parked with affiliate links to buy hockey tickets, etc...

Does anyone know if celebrities can take a domain back from squatters like this? The guy is clearly NOT my relative.

Well he's not smart enough to have done private registration AND he's registered it at GoDaddy so maybe he's a bit naive.

So I did some more research...

This guy has registered hundreds - maybe thousands - of celebrity names and he has them all parked via www.information.com's parking service. He has a bunch of the name of the one team my nephew plays for registered.

The team has a legal department I'm sure - this should be a no-brainer for them to take care of for these guys.

I also looked at the law and unless you happen to share a name with a celebrity you're pretty much screwed on these.
