I finally had a decent campaign going on the content network. First couple days I had several million impressions, several thousand clicks and hundreds of conversions per day and awesome ROI.

Now, about 7 days into this campaign, I'm getting a fraction of the impressions - 200k to 500k - less clicks, less conversions etc and shit ROI.

I know the content network fluctuates, but what the hell. Is it ever of any help to livechat or call Google over something like this? My understanding is that if you get googleslapped on the Content Network, you would simply get 0 impressions.

Anyone have any tips to kickstart a content network campaign?

I had the same problem as well.

Last year one of my campaign was doing extremely well on the Content network, but since the last week of December to now it totally sucks. The number of clicks continue the same , but the ROI is gone!!

That is normal for the CN. Some may say this is unrelated, but check your keywords QS and make sure everything is the same as when you started. Keep adding new related content to your landing page, over time may help you to get some steady traffic. If all else fails, switch the site to a different domain and do a new campaign with the same info.. usually works for me.

Thanks for the reply - probably gonna load it onto a new domain. What i'm using now I literally threw up in 20 minutes, no about us page, no faq, no 15 pages original content. just 1 page. so my plan is to probably bang all that out on the new domain

Keyword QS does not effect content network ads(unless they changed that in the last 2 months). You can have poor keyword QS with $10 bids and be paying .05 a click and ranked #1 on the content network.

On the content network its more about CTR. Try to get a higher one.
When you create a new campaign they will pump your site to test the CTR(atleast I think thats what they are doing), then it adjust accordingly.

Try throwing up a new domain, with a slightly better ad. See if that helps keep the traffic flowing.

It does fluctuate day by day. I usualy run content ads for 4-5 days before changing much. It can take up to 48 hours to going in full swing.

I agree somewhat. You can have an inactive keyword w/ OK QS asking u to pay $.20/click, but pay $.03 clicks on CN. However, last month I had a bunch of inactive keywords for search, CN was great .. steady traffic, high volume. The QS on those keywords then went to poor and all my CN traffic stopped.. Basically I think this is getting at the fact that you want a good quality site for both Search and CN, and you can use the keywords to see how Google feels about your site.

how much were you paying on the content network??? I cant get anything going on there for 5 cents

There is no QS on the content network.

Your ad is shown based on how profitable it is for Google & the webmaster. If your ad is pushing a high effective CPM rate, it will out rank / preform other ads that have a lower effective CPM.

Once you understand this you will pwn the content network.

For some reason i never thought about that, it goes by CPM not CTR, so if you are doing content by keywords, not by placement, does it keep track of the CPM for each site your ad is shown on? because it only shows you the overall total at the bottom

So i put a bunch of random loosely targeted highly searched keywords in an adgroup and bid .05 and .03 on content, to see if i could atleast get some impressions on the content network....So i decided to run one keyword at .05 on the search network to see what would happen, and 8 hours later 20-30 of my keywords were at minimum bid .01. Seriously wtf??? Ive been trying to get my highly targeted ads to run at 5 cents for months, i swear ill never understand adwords, and ive been doing this for 5 years.

adwords is like pretty women.. they can lower your I.Q. :rasta:
