I have a few websites where I sell my own products.

For every sale, I want to know where the buyer came from and what they did on my site before they bought.

I've attempted to do this with Google Analytics, but so far I've been unsuccessful.

Any advice? Software recommendations?

If you are selling fleshlights, you don't wanna know what the buyer did on your site before they bought.

But yeah, clicktale (or clickheat the free one) will tell you the buyers movments on your your webpage, and use prosper to see where and how they came to your site.

I second Clicktale and P202. Clicktale gives you some super specific info about your users. Your own sales system software should allow you to easily integrate a P202 postback that keeps your tracking in check.

I use clicktale and it's great for seeing how people use your site and helps find usability/confusion issues. But it DOES NOT (at least that i am aware of) have "conversion tracking" where you can look at data for all site visitors and wee conversion paths etc...

Likewise, P202 will show you conversion data for keywords and networks, but WILL NOT show you any conversion path info that visitors take on your site.

You need to use Google Analytics. Have you tried setting up goals? How about tracking a "Funnel Path"?

I know Omniture has a feature where you can track funnel paths that ARE NOT predefined. Not sure if google analytics has the same thing, but if it does, use that. If not, try messing with the regular funnel paths and see if you can get it to work.

maybe these will help:

Thanks for the tips.

ClickTale looks awesome.

I enabled the ecommerce feature in Google Analytics and set up my shopping carts to send the order data to GA. It looks as if it does what I want.
