So I've had a few different reseller accounts in my life and have noticed a funny phenomena when I cancel.
I never actually go through the standard cancellation process with my host, if I've decided to leave I'm leaving and I don't want to listen to their up sell bull shit. So I usually just transfer my stuff over and cancel the paypal subscription.
What I assume happens is they keep everything on the server in hopes I'll pay my late fee and continue hosting. If you try to view the site you get a suspended page, but they don't suspend everything.
As far as I can tell, and this goes for 99% of the CPanel hosts I've had, cron jobs, and database access, still work just fine. I was poking around today and realized I still had a cron running on a hosting account I canceled over year ago.
The cron sends weekly emails to a database of subscribers
I tried to login and was unable to, tried to view the site and got a suspended page. The cron has been running just fine for over a year.
Sooooooooooooo I assume you could probably set it up so some other stuff still works too once you cancel. I don't personally have any use for this idea but maybe one you will.
I recommend targetting hosts with late fee policys although out of the 15+ CPanel hosts I've had, only one has deleted my account immedietly after non-payment. The rest have kept my stuff around for longer than I have bothered to check.
