i don't plan to sell our customers information at any point in the future. we're in the process of having our site designed and we're thinking about the best way to go about getting newsletter sign-ups.

we were planning on having a comment box with a email + name entry fields with a newsletter sign-up checkbox option. recently i've been seeing a lot of nice looking email sign-ups that just have one simple entry field for email with a go button.

examples:

SkyLedger | Dead Simple Accounting, Dead Simple Bookkeeping, Perfect For Small Businesses With Partners (bottom right)

obviously we would get more comments if we had a comment box. i would say email sign-ups are more important than comments. we could always implement a give feedback section that follows the page or something.

my question is, is there any point in collecting names along with the email, other than that we would be able to address these customers by their first name in our newsletter? just wondering if we might be missing something. also posting to see if anybody here has had wild success (increase in sign-ups) using only one email as the entry field + submit button.
