Custom Affilate URLs?--Need advice

Hey Guys,

I am fairly new to affiliate marketing and we are looking to use it with a new site I have. I have signed up with a few of the major networks and when I get a link it's always a link to the company's home page with our unique affiliate id embedded in the URL.

My question is can we customize which page on the vendor's site we redirect to and just include our unique affiliate id in the URL string? Then if the user completes the actions we get paid? Or are we forced to use whatever landing page they want us to redirect to?

Mostly you're forced to use their page. Take a look at Shareasale, they have a feature called Create Custom Link that lets you make a link of any of a merchant's pages. You can also use a merchant's datafeed and fish out the link to a particular product's page that you're linking to.
