So I need cash for bills and Pennsic. You can never have too much cash, either. 'Professional' rates are normally a lot higher than most of the rates I've seen here (most of the writer's guilds require work paid at 0.05/word or better), but I'm willing to pimp my skills out (My WRITING! Dirty boys!) until at least mid-summer for much less on the content side. Good writing is hard to come by these days *cough*outsourcingtoIndia*cough*
Qualifications: I don't tell people about this IRL unless asked, but I did go to Harvard as an undergrad for three years (I couldn't afford the tuition for the final one) and I figure this is a field where that's worth mentioning. Plus, it was for a Humanities major one step away from English, so I'm grammatically obsessive and I don't make stupid mistakes like it's vs. its, your vs. you're, affect vs. effect, etc. I can write fairly well in French and Latin, though why you would need someone to write copy in Latin is beyond me. I also know what a comma splice is.
Turnaround time: depends on how much work you give me and how many people are in the queue aheadof you. If I'm booked, I'll put a post here that orders are on hold until I'm done. I work 8-12 hours a day, 5-6 days a week if necessary.
Rates:
I ask for half of the fee as a down payment upfront. After seeing people here get scammed by losers, it's simply not worth my time to risk losing my work. It's just smart business.
Rewritten or standard content. Please provide specific examples of the kind of work you want to see or have rewritten. (All phrases should come up as unique, 95 percent or better – you should be able to run my articles through a checker tool and not have any duplicate hits to other sources. This is what almost all content that you buy is: rehashed information that doesn't require accreditation or offline research but that is written creatively.)
-0.02 (2 cents) /word, which works out to:
--200 word article = $4.00 (minimum order of 10)
--400 word article = $8.00 (minimum of 5)
--500 word article = $10.00 (minimum of 4)
Sourced content. (I find one or more sources offline and quote or credit them in my writing.)
-0.05 (5 cents) /word:
--400 word article = $20.00 (minimum order of 2)
--500 word article = $25.00
News Shorts. (See medialifemagazine .com for examples of news shorts. This is where you tell me the stories that you want covered and I recap the news in 100-200 words.)
-0.04 (4 cents) /word:
--100 word short = $4.00 (minimum order of 10)
--200 word short = $8.00 (minimum order of 4)
Opinion pieces and sales copy. (Subjects I will NOT do: conservative political pieces, pharma crap, porn, guns, illegal drugs, gambling, bigotry. I'm happy to lament Paris Hilton, hype the next digital camera, rant about the idiocy of the blogosphere, or drive clicks to a dating site, but I have my personal limits. )
-Same as news rates – 0.04 (4 cents) /word, minimum order of $40.00 worth of work.
Fiction. (Any subject within reason except erotica or fan fiction. Romance is okay.)
Author name/names is/are my choice. (This means I am allowed to take credit for the work on a CV or as a qualification for guilds/societies. I will probably use a pen name or names.)

--1000 word short = $75.00
--5000 word short = $375.00
Anonymous work. (Author name/names is/are your choice; I do not receive credit.)
