Direct Linking or Landing Pages

You didn't mention what's your traffic source, so it depends.
If you use PPC, I would ONLY go with a landing page, collection optins and presell your gig. Regardless what the niche is.
If you are onto Article Marketing, Video Marketing or so you can do both.
I personally test niches by directlinking first, buying a cheap .info domain and when it cracks, go and make a lander at a .com domain.
Test what you think is better and stick to the formula I mentioned.

The reason I say this is that is sounds like you haven't been sending traffic to landing pages long enough to know how to create one that converts better than the ad network's pages.
This is understandable since they have been doing it for a long time and have tons of data to know what works and what doesn't.
So, send the traffic directly for a couple of months. Once you run a few similar offers you will get a feel for what kind of landing page to create. Then start making them and never look back at direct linking.

I just send em to the "Thank you for your purchase" page...don't even need the credit card info...so the pixel fires, and BOOM! i get my commission

my experience has always been that for impulsive purchase decisions, landing pages that highlight the selling points convert better. both of the niches you mention are impulse buys and thus i'd vote for using LPs...
