Hey guys,

Not sure what could have happened on this. Been ranking #2 for my different search terms on google for months now. Few of my terms dropped off top 100 and one moved to #61 like overnight.

* Have not lost any backlinks, have not started any new linking strategies.
* No big content changes
* No title tag change

Any ideas guys?

Thanks in advance!

Did you buy link placement on another site? If you did and that site got downgraded by Google for doing so, it could be the reason you too were downgraded.

Nope haven't bought any links.. could dupe content on another site do this even if I was the original?

This does sound like a penalty.

Understand you have not made recent changes, but have you done something shady or grey/black hat in the past?

It's possible that has caught up with you.

But also give it a few days before worrying too much about it, it could just be a temporary glitch.

Let us know how you get on with it.

Cheers

Same thing happened to me. Site was a few months old and ranking #2 for my keyword. Then all of the sudden it dropped and was nowhere to be found. A couple months later it reappears as #1 and is still holding the #1 slot. So, just give it time while your site ages. It's not a penalty, just the natural order of things.

And if you want to speed up the process, contact Red Virus about his social bookmarking package.

I use it all the time and it's amazing for quick ranking. ;)
