hey guys I am just wondering about ebay's payment structure. There was a winning bid of $816.17 on one of the products(consumer electronics) and the winner went thru my aff link, the reportiing shows sale of $816.17 and I was only paid $4.43 in commission, i believe it should be around $15 ? correct me if I am wrong.

My calculation

816.16 * 10/100 = 57.12 (ebay's cut)

81.616 * 30/100 = 17.48 (my commission)?

Also there seems to be difference in reporting from the transcation list and one shown on dashboard, transcation list has higher reporting.

Where are you getting that ebay get's 10%? I thought they only got like 2or 3 % and then you get half of that...something like that. Course it does vary on the different departments...Motors is different I think

I have also been curious on this myself. Checking out the eBay listing fees, eBay.com Fees it appears you fall into this bracket:

8.75% of the initial $25.00 ($2.19), plus 3.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 to $1,000.00)

I have also had sales within this range that yield less than $5. The sales are from US eBay, which should translate to 55% of ebay's cut. I am sure I am missing something....

We need someone to really look into this because if that's true I should be getting higher commissions as well, because I noticed my stats are a little weird as well.

I had someone buy 2 x 400 items and I received $30ish in commission according to the logs, about 26-28 according to balance.

that should have bin 7% instead of 10% which gives $57.12

Fees 2008

According to that Fee schedule: $25.01 - $1,000.00 5.25% of the initial $25.00, plus 3.25% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 to $1,000.00)8.75% of the initial $25.00, plus 3.50% of the remaining closing value balance ($25.01 to $1,000.00)

so 8.75% * 25= 2.18
+
3.50% * 816.16 =28.56

= 30.74 * 55% = 16.91 <-- although that's not what you got so, I don't know.

I sold something right around the same price range last week and my commission was $17.88. Something must be off?

It seems impossible to figure out the math on eBay commissions. Last month I had a winning bid of $733.66 on one transaction and I got $66.64 for the commission. Another winning bid was for $900 and I got $47.02 in commission.

How did I make $20 more on the smaller sale? It could be because, eBay runs promotions for free or reduced listings which reduces your commission. It also makes a difference if the seller listed the auction for $0.99 and it was bid up high since the insertion fee would be much lower than if they started the bid at $700.

That doesn't completely explain the low commission you got though since you should still get your cut of the final value fee. There must be some other variable. Has eBay ever offered a promo for free final value fees?

I have emailed their help team, its weird for me as well as I have in the past had several $700 winning bids and pocketed $17 per winning bid.

Thanks for this, I was unaware of the initial listing fee variance. It seems like there is no equation for figuring out commission, making it easy for them to shave a little here and there (although I don't see them doing that).

Ebay's system is fucked up. I calculated my logs and notice a signup missing in my dashboard ($25). In my dashboard it didn't show that extra $25 then when I got paid I got the $25 even tho in my dash it was still not there.

Ebay's reply

"I've checked the relevant item ID in our system and found that the
seller was credited with the final value fee, this is the reason why the
rvenue of eBay and your earning is so low.

Please note that you will earn a percentage of eBay's revenue for
Winning Bids. eBay's revenue is based on the Insertion and Final Value
Fees, and fees for optional features. The revenue for each item depends
on the options chosen by the seller and the sale price of the item."
