I am targetting a niche: housefurnitureCITYNAME.TLD
However they are all taken but
CITYNAMEhousefurniture.TLD is available.

Would that still be classed as a EMD despite the fact it has been shuffled around? Would the big G dog still love it?

Cool, yeah i am just unsure wether it will get the full bonus of having the keywords in the URL if they are shuffled around.

Noob question, Im thinking about starting my first site, all answers are massively appreciated.

As an example:

If I bought the domain

www.RentalPropertyIn.com

would this be a good EMD if I wanted to target a few areas and the keywords were, for example,
"rental property in Texas" "rental property in Vegas" "rental property in California" etc would it be a good domain to get?

sorry for the poor examples :-s

Don't stress too much on EMD's. People are spending way too much time and effort trying to find EMD's and not enough on content, QUALITY Link building, and social networking. Just get a decent domain name and move on to the bigger picture.

EMDs are kind of like getting your foot in the door because it'll help in getting your site ranked in Google. The trick is keeping people's attention and to do that you'll need to have top quality content.

I'm wondering how relevant EMDs are now, especially for an authority site. Seems to me that a catchy, easy to remember, somewhat brandable domain name is the way to go.

EMDs are WORTHLESS

Don't listen to this guy. EMDs are magic golden ticket to page 1. In fact I'd even say it's impossible to rank without an EMD. Have you seen the SERPs lately? It's all EMDs and partial EMDs. Authority, age, quality and taxonomy are dead. EMDs are king.

If you don't have an EMD you will never rank for a term ever! All the non-EMD sites that rank only rank because they pay Google under the table for rankings. Average joes like us either have to use an EMD or go home. If you aren't using EMDs you might as well just give up now and go apply at McDonalds.

You can apply here. On their exact match domain.

Just had a brand new www.citynamekeyword.com go from a PR n/a to a PR4 on the last PR update. But I do not think the domain name has anything to do with it. I think a lot of the factors revolve around qualityish work that presents useful content to the potential readers.

Are you you still trying to game the most advanced algo on the planet? Im assuming if you are starting emd question threads you have a lot of reading/research to do before you start trying to manipulate goog.

Why don't you just do what it wants until you can figure out how to get around some of the BS. I mean you will save us some time.

PS - I want the part of my life back that I just wasted in and reading this thread. OP you owe me 3k$. If you don't pay up in 8 eight days Im going to break my legs.

Brockstar is right. If you want to build authority site, don't go for the EMD's. Some say that EDM boost doesn't exist anymore, well i think that EMD boost still exist, but it all depends of the content of your site. I have a recently launhed 4 sites and all of them were EMD's, 2 did rank very well and other two didn't rank the way i predicted. The funny thing is that one site is about quotes, meaning that all quotes are copied from another sites, and it is on the 3rd place. That tells me that EMD still works.

either it emd or non emd i must say one thing i.e "CONTENT IS KING" simply write articles for readers not only for promotions and update twice n thrice in a week if you want higher authority then go a head daily update new stuff for reader and users. But after the latest G's algo.. takecare of link building part. i suggest you to take a start with social marketing first. untill you get enough traffic and authority built. look for .net or .org if .com isn't available!

Instead of using city name why dont you just use housefurniture in your site, you can target many cities if you just have the name.Suppose if you target specific city
then only those city people will visit your site.Register house furniture and use multiple cities as sub-domains.
