I've read in a few places that most people advertising with facebook either don't use Prosper202, or just use it for cloaking the campaigns to hide them from AMs and advertisers.

This is stupid. Prosper202 is an amazing tool to track campaigns. In Google, Yahoo and MSN you want to track keywords, but with Facebook you want to track demographics. Just because there isn't a "demographic" option in Prosper202 doesn't mean you can't, you just need to be creative. Using the text ad feature can help you nail down exactly what demographics are converting for you and which ones aren't.

For the sake of our example, lets use the standard dating offer. You're going to advertise this offer (say naughty or nice) with one ad, to straight men from 18 to 40 years old, direct linking.

In Prosper 202 setup, when you get to "text ads", you're going to want to create one ad for each year, 18 to 40 years old. Your ad nickname should be something along the lines of "Naughty or Nice Straight Male 18", "Naughty or Nice Straight Male 19", etc, etc. You can use programs such as imacro to make this process much faster.

Then, when you're creating ads in facebook, use the ad that corresponds to the demographic you're targetting. When leads start coming in, you'll be able to track, based on the ad nicknames, which ones are performing best (this is under Analyze>Text Ads in Prosper202). More importantly, you can either optimize or kill the ones which are giving you a negative ROI.

Don't limit yourself to doing this for age alone. You can track interests, location, landing page v no landing page, relationship status, sexual orientation and basically anything else facebook lets you track by doing this. It's a little bit more time consuming than simply direct linking with your affiate link because you don't have keywords to track in Facebook, but by not doing it you're throwing money away because you're not tracking properly.

Good stuff. I do this for a variety of traffic sources, works well. If Prosper doesnt offer the feature, you just have to get a little creative.

I used to do it this way, but using keywords is so much quicker than creating a bunch of ads. Nice tip though.

Or you can use the the Facebook Ad Manager to automate the process, sure you have to refer back and forth later, but it will still save you hours in split testing.

Also... run tests more than once when split testing. Facebook rewards ads with higher CTR and sometimes the same ad with the same demos will perform better depending on time of day, or just how good the initial CTR was.

Ya the in depth tracking helps but it's a pain in the ass. FB ends up disapproving all my ads after I submit like 30 (one for each age). So... have fun getting an ad for each age approved. You can also just use php GET variable to add a subID for each ad, it's a lot quicker then making ads and getting the links with prosper.

Thats the thing I hate about 202..for each kw or demo, you need a seperate campaign/ad practically..and if you have different bid pricing, you have to go change your code too...very time intensive, especially if you are running alot of offers..
