In browsing this and other forums, I see a bunch of talk about "finding the right niche." But the more I read and learn about AM, the more I think it's centered on just a few common and competative niches. I'm signed up with three networks; C2M, A4D, and Advaliant. And all of them seem to be offering the same stuff; usually Diet, BizOpp, Grants, Teeth Whitening, and Beauty Aids. Obviously these mean huge money, and I'm working on these to get my cut, but I'm curious as to all the talk about "finding niches." Are there other networks with more niches than just the usual suspects? Does PPC have a place in these uncommon ones or is it something you'd more than likely use SEO? How does one monetize these outside of adsense if they're not CPA?

What niches are there to find if all networks offer are a few common niches is basically what I'm getting at?

And boobs for the help (and hopefully keep the flames to a minimum):

You're only looking at the problem from inside the 'box' of aff network offer lists. Have your eyes open as you go through your day and you will spot little gaps and niches all around you.

Say you are going to buy something online, reading about some new product you think is great in a magazine or a friend tells you about some amazing new shit they bought...when you have a look on google later you happen to notice that in the search results for product X there isn't much ad competition. You do a bit of research and find that actually, there's a whole bunch of search queries for this and related terms each month and you could be making some change out of this.

You do a bit more research and find there's an affiliate program for product X on CJ for example and make an adwords campaign/lander/etc and find this pulls you in a few hundred a week/month or whatever with great profits as there isn't too much competition and bids are low. You've found a niche that although maybe small in volume, will be stable and produce some $$ for a while.

It's a simplified example granted, but you get the idea? I started my first company and ecommerce site a good few years ago on the back of reading a magazine, seeing a product I wanted to buy...and I found I literally couldn't buy one online...finding the manufacturer, distributor, calling their rep in the UK and the rest is history. It didn't make me crazily big money, maybe 20k in the year before I got fed up dealing with people, but it taught me a hell of a lot along the way!

Hopefully some of that ramble helps you on your way anyway ;)

Yes, yes & yes.

Best place for uncommon niches cj.com, shareasale.com, linkshare.com. I have made small change from some the uncommon niches, some of them I give credit to as seen on tv.
I agree what Edward_b said, just be aware of your surroundings (Unagee: Ross from friends...)

I only expected to find discussion on niche research here lol. anyways, as for as niche research is concerned, I use the 'niche report' service offered by axcessthesolution.com
Saves me a lot of time and I keep a shortlist of the best finds. If you dont want to pay, you can ofcourse do the research yourself. you can request a sample niche report on that website, good service if you can afford. take care

How many visitors a day would you see as ideal for a "niche" site? or a month is maybe a better estimate. I know that depending on how you monetize it, the value would be different.

Basically how many people are needed to make a niche worth it?
