I have been interested in blogging and internet marketing for sometime but i never got the chance to sit down and do it right. So, i just decided last week that im going to give it all ive got. I went to the library and got some books on blogging and internet marketing. I decided to start my first blog a week ago. I picked a subject i know about(art) and decided to start an inspiration gallery. This is what i have done in the first week..(i dont know if im on track?)

I read a few books on blogging/social networking
Found a template and did some editing(i knew a little html/css)
Signed up for blogger
Purchased a domain name to fit my niche
Uploaded 100 designs and tagged them by genre and color
started a twitter account(60+ targeted followers)
signed up with adsense(made 8 bucks or so)
1000 vistiors
seo keyword search and implemented it to my blog
submitted my blog to seach engines(im on the first page of google for my domain name/subject..actually first link)
watched some video tutorials
posted in a blog with my signature going to my website
signed up wiith a flickr account and submitted my uploads to other flickr groups
used alt and title tags with my images(but does anyone know how to make a flickr image url more seo friendly? the images just have numbers at the end of it instead of words..)
I signed up with sellyourads but they rejected me..there looking for 50k visitors a month(depressing)
got feedburner
I probably did some other things but thats enogh for now...


Where i want to go with this...

I WANT TO LEARN FIRST AND MAKE MONEY SECOND. LOL

I would like to have a mentor who could give me some tips and direct me but any advice is welcome. If you could give me some tutorials, advice, experience, etc that would be great. Its my first week with blogging and my first week learning about blogging/internet marketing.

If you made 8 dollars your first week you are already ahead of the curve. If you're already at the #1 spot, what type of advice are you looking for?
 
Thanks. I didnt know that this was good. I really didnt have any idea because i have never done this nor do i know anyone who has ever done it. I was busting my ass for the $8 lol.
I have to look up backlinks,affliate marketing, monetizing a site(im just using adsense) etc. I want the site to be a well oiled machine. I think i spent 30 hours last week working on it.
 
You didn't bust your ass for $8. If your site has the #1 position that is going to be $8 every week. That's what you busted your ass for. Don't hold yourself to someone else's standards of what's "good"
 
Dude, kudos to ya- you are light years ahead of most people that try IM already.

First, you've developed a plan, and executed on it. Now refine that site, learning as you go, then scale it up. In no time you could have a respected art authority portal of several thousand pages, and your biggest problem would be deciding whose ad money to take- Giggle's or far more lucrative opps.

Thanks for the encouragement!! I found out how fustration i/m can be the past 3 weeks. Lets hope collecting money is my only problem lmao.

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to give everyone an update about this. Like i said this is my first website so i realized i made a lot of mistakes. I have been doing some more reading on internet marketing and have implemented some more ideas.
(BY THE WAY...I GOT FUSTRATED AND DIDNT TOUCH MY SITE FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS..I/M IS SO TEDIOUS..I DONT THINK I KNEW WHAT I WAS GETTING INTO LMAO)

So i took a deep breath and tried to keep working on it. This is what i have done in the past few days...


-changes the layout(this layout cleaner, lighter, easier to navigate) Changes have led to less adsense revenue...but overall is liked better by my audience.
-changed keywords (i realized the niche i got into isnt what i thought it was going to be..not a lot of people are interested but also not a lot of companies are established..so i goes hand and hand. I think i really have a good niche)
-increased twitter followers ( i have 150 followers now and have been tagging words)
-increased traffic (1st day 120 view..second 250 views..today..already hit 300 views)
-uploaded more work( i have been receiving work from designers via email)
-sent emails out to designers(trying a few different methods..just text email..i dont know much about email marketing)
-affiliate marketing (i have a referral account with a graphic design company..if anyone buys anything i get a cut off their first purchase.i think its 30%)

WHAT I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH AND STILL DONT UNDERSTAND....

-email marketing
-rss feeds (no one is subscribing and the link is bold and at the top of the page..maybe i should follow other blogs?)
-affiliate marketing (i have a commission junction account and have been approved by companies but i dont understand commission junction yet so i havent used it)
-seo (i think i have some good keywords..i looked at other website around my market)
-link building( i will write some articles for other blogs once i have everything set up)
-pictures (i read that having a clear description in the pic url is good seo practice..but flickr gives some crazy url and i cant change it i dont think....)

I did some other things and have some other questions but thats enough for now. If anyone could help me with some of the questions or give some advice that would be GREAT! thanks!
