I own a high traffic site, gets between 20,000 to 60,000 uniques per day. It is pcplanets dot com. It's sort of an ugly site and needs a redesign. Regardless, over the years, the CPM rates (.30eCOM tops) have dried up....and even adsense was pretty worthless. I am running zangocash and do ok, and also a casale popup, an invue from valueclick and then daisy chain tribal and valueclick for the banner ads.

I think the traffic could be better monetized by doing affiliate marketing, I could use some advice...if one of you owned the site, what would you do to better monetize the traffic? At various points in the past 3 years, I made close to $1000 a day...now I am down to about $150 a day in total for all programs.

If someone really thinks they know something that will work, I might even be willing to pay you a percentage of the revenues as a consulting fee. Otherwise, I am just looking for some advice from the kindness of your hearts.

Someone referred me here from digitalpoint, I cannot wait to read and learn from all the great experience present on the this board, thanks! I've never had a lot of luck running standard CPA campaigns on the site...but I havent' tried my own landing pages, nor have I really tested many different campaigns.

Brent, you've got a gold mine there. Sign up for a few networks and start bringing in the cash if you need help just let me know.

Sweet site. You've come to the right place. It will take a while to sort through everything here but you'll get some good ideas...and hopefully some of the affiliate masters here will drop you a word or two of advice.
 
Yeh, you just need a better affiliate network. I'm sure those worth their salt are pming you right now.
 
Thanks for all the remarks! Trust me I want to dump zango, with a passion, but it's the only thing that I've found that pays....once you reach 3000 installs, their pay rate jumps about 30% for all the installs that month...I'll easily get to 3000 installs.

Before I get rid of zango, I need a plan for what I will replace it with.... I am a member of neverblueads, and maxbounty and hottopic.... but I am just not sure running cpa banners, regardless of the offer, will pay?

I use openads adserver, so I can geotarget, freq.cap, etc.. but with neverblueads, I've tried some US only campaigns....bbw, credit cards, debt, education, etc.. I get a few clicks...but no conversions (i got one bbw form that generated $3.30)...

I've been researching the free iphone ads, etc... but those are so annoying.... alos maybe I need to stop using affiliated supplied ads? and generate my own landing pages?

I was thinking of trying dating ebooks as my demographic is 18-35 year olds...

I really respect you affiliate gurus, this is some tough sledding.... :-)
 
Nice site. Not what I thought it would be, Contact me on AIM I can give you some great ideas on that site. Things that would convert with what you are doing.

I think you should step up the ads maybe. Use some adsense on the left and right. You need some good banners that target the demographic you are in. I could give you some great ideas.

all organic search. it's not really impressive, because I can't seem to figure out how to monetize it. :-) With all of your help, maybe I can make it impressive once again!!
 
Are you with any networks? That would be the first step, then go through and look through all the offers with both screens up. You've got the traffic so you're almost guaranteed money.
 
tough to get rid of zango, because they pay so well....until I can figure out an alternative plan...zango needs to stay. Other than that, I agree zango is for the birds, it's annoying to users, etc..

TuesZ, what does this mean "go through and look through all the offers with both screens up"? I understand the offers part, but what does "both screens up" mean? :-)

so now I need to determine the networks...I belong to neverblueads.com and maxbounty already....but it seems that are many more from what I am hearing...
 
Get rid of Zango, like others have suggested - it's tres annoying.

adexhibitjason, thanks for the suggestions....I am using the neverblueads.com rotator, I dropped all the bbw, credit cards, education ads and switched to ringtones, cupid, free ipods, and applied to king.com and some ringtones...

I'll keep trying new things...I am only running 468s with the offers until I find some offers that at least generate a decent number of clicks...

maybe just running banners is not the answer?

Probably. I think you should get more creative. I've never had much success with just slapping banners on a website.

Did you try email marketing? I see you are collecting email addresses. How about marketing targeted offers to the members via email?
 
I run an invue ad from valueclick, they tend to just run one ad in it, the ad is on eof the ose taling "free iphone" ads....anyways, that ad generates a 10% clickthru rate and today has generated 526 clicks. I made a total of $6.00 from it... that's about a $1.10 eCPM, so with that number of clicks, I am thinking why not run the same campaign just using a CPA through an affiliat network, rather than CPM through valueclick? with 500+ clicks, even get 20 conversions would yield better numbers than the CPM offer?

anybody know where I can find a competitive affiliate program with free talking iphone ads?
 
Get rid of zango! Zango WILL steal your commissions, you are screwing yourself in the long run using zango. If one of your users installs zango then clicks one of your links and signs up for something, zango can steal the commission by changing the affiliate link. Zango is nasty spyware. Someone could install zango and you make like 50 cents, but then maybe they sign up for one of your offers that makes you $3 but zango changes the link when they click on it so ZANGO makes that $3, not you. Take zango off immediatly and change all the ads to ONLY ads related to your demographic. Try different things and see which does best. You said you worried about being paid running CPA offers... why? If you generate leads with neverblue, they WILL pay you. Talk to your AM at neverblue, they could even give you some suggestions.

Before doing anything, REMOVE ZANGO.
