gunna have a site where people download stuff and i wanna make some dough off of it. what is the best and least annoying to the visitor?

Google AdSense is probably the most socially acceptable or you can contact a network and test out offers your self.

A couple of options are:

File upload sites like File Sonic, who pay per 1000 downloads. A quick look at their site shows that the bigger the filesize and where the user resides greatly affects payouts.

Some others to check out are Hotfile, Rapidshare, Megaupload. Although File Sonic seems to be the most popular one at the moment.

Another option is interstitial ads, which are near full page ads which the user is redirected to upon clicking a link, with a "continue" link.

From your point of view, do you think interstitial ads would be annoying the customer? or confuse them at all? The visitors would be blog makers and website makers

I think it depends what they're downloading and how common it is etc. I used them when I provided flash source files for free, all of which were uniquely created by me. So I think they were getting a pretty good deal out of it.

Maybe you could test it by measuring the download count with and without the ads.
