About 2 weeks ago, G decided to sandbox my site which was #3 for the keyword.
I've been doing some link building on the site, but other than that I have no idea why I would be sandboxed.

Site has 9 pages of unique information, with navigation menu on top. Main page talks about product and has a free trial button at the bottom.

Any idea why I got slapped? What I can do to speed up the process of getting back on the SERPS?

shady offer?
shady link building?
unoriginal content?
grandmother ok?
non google affiliate network affiliate site?

Have you tried article marketing? This is a good way to do backlinking, without seeming suspicious. It adds original content linking back to your website, once again. You can also try putting articles on your website itself, thus adding more content; and backlinking with those/to those as well.

People may be able to find your website from the articles, if you have done any useful SEO within the article content itself, and this may help you.

Also, do you have any videos out or anything related? Videos, if good, can easily and quickly become noticed as well, which gives further exposure to your website.

As mentioned by another user above, as well if you have paid for your backlinks- google takes note of this as being unnatural, and you can easily be pushed down because of this.

The reason google is able to notice this, is because alot of paid backlinking services use the same websites; so it's not hard to track then. Do you also have a lot of unnatural traffic?

Also mentioned above, was about your content itself. Does it make sense, is it in fact original? is it PLR content? Or was it personally written by you?

If it is PLR, then you will easily be sandboxed, as google views this as not being original and considers it to be duplicate content. I have a PLR website done through word press as well, and all of the content had to be changed so that I would not experience the same thing.

Phrench, I digress. Frontlinks are illegal, especially with ninja optimisation - not its fallable cousin the backlink.

How old is the domain?

Sandboxing & slapping are two TOTALLY different things.

When you do a site:domain.com on the site , does it show that pages are indexed? If they're showing on the index, then it's sandboxing. If they're not there at all , and nothing shows on your site, then it's a slap.

SE0 is dead I am afraid.

SE1 and some of the more advanced marketers are now using SE2.

Seriously <waits for room to quiet>, Google has been more schizo lately that I can ever remember it being. I have been watching a term that I ranked on the front page, vanished from the top 50, and then ranked again for in the span of hours.

My stats showed searches on that term from the front page, but when I looked for my site it was gone. What the....? And the searcher and I were both in the US, so somehow we were getting different results.

It's another to make a person mad, I tell you, mad!

As other posters mentioned, build some more content, and go get some backlinks. Your site will probably show up again.
