Hi

my files on my computer have turned into a LNK file

can a good registery cleaner clean this....or is there anothr method

running xp

I can save a word doc on desktop...but if I go to start click on office then word

t says windows cannot open this file and windows needs to know what programme created it

anyone help

My first thought would be a virus, in that case format. Other than that it seems like HDD or windows corruption, in that case format.

And if it is HDD corruption, get a new HDD as well.

Sounds like a virus indeed, and it's fucked with your registry/exe's and probably other hidden shit only to happen later.

I'd get:

MalwareBytes < Google it
Ccleaner < Google it
xp_exe_fix.reg < Get that at Windows XP File Assocation Fixes click 'EXE File Association Fix'

^ Should be good to go, all free. (It's happened to me a few times, make sure you haven't installed any weird shit lately, do a system restore if possible too to a previous date, and use the ccleaner/malwarebytes a few times in a row, restart, repeat to clean it well, will take a while but do it). These usually happen on fake tray ads/false positive anti-virus shit just to get you to upgrade/remove. Last one I had that was bad was a fake windows security center and it was a biiiiiiiiiiiitch but the above fixed it all well. You might be blocked from sites/downloads too so you might want to get the above onto a USB stick first then bring it all over to the infected machine.
