How do you evaluate exact match domain value?

With some research I can pull in a few exact match domains here and there. What do you look for as sort of a minimum search volume, CPC, etc. before a new domain is worth something on it's own without any development.

Say you've got an exact match .org that get's 20k searches, CPC of ~$1, competition is low, it's an actual product, but not trademarked, etc. Is this worth anything more than $7.99 until you develop it?

Are you buying to develop or just to flip the domain?

My rule of thumb is 2,400 exact searches or higher with a CPC of $2 or higher. If it's an exact product domain (non TM) I like to see listings come up for the search on Shopping.com and also Ebay. I use Terabyte to see the amount of volume sold on Ebay too. It's one thing to see listings but if they're not selling than it'll do you no good.

Currently developing, but I'm wondering what I can make just flipping them as I'm not as familiar with that world.

Yes it is very much worth. Last month I bough one .net domain matching my keyword for $150.. with a search volume of 45K every month. having said that i paid becoz my client paid me $250 for the same

Flipping sounds like easy money but it takes time and research just like anything else. Flipping to other domain investors is the quick out but they're not going to pay much. Finding suitable end users to buy them is the key to earning a solid return but as I said earlier, that takes time.

Botttom line, it's not easy money so you need to decide whether the time invested would be better served on your current core business.

Take a look at the sales threads at the popular domain forums. There are plenty of domains for sale and not many buyers. I don't want to discourage you from trying but I do want you to go into it with realistic expectations.

^^^what he said re end users vs. selling to domainers

My standards on .orgs are:

Two word or 10-character limit (ie. if it's three words, needs to be 10 letters or less)

1,500 exact match searches per month

$3.00 CPC

With the 2% left after that point I add

No numbers, hyphens etc. (not an issue if you're hand-registering of course)

Better if it "sounds orgish." (Just personal bias for me, but I have had more success selling .orgs that actually sound like they could be an organisaton, eg. LabradorBreeder.org vs. FleshlightDeals.org)

If you need some inspiration check out NameClerk's mailing list. They send out a huge number of available domains in each major extension a couple of times a month, already catalogued by search volume, cpc, Estibot appraisal, WordTracker count etc. and even break up the keywords. Used to be hard to get any names, but he changed the format on the newsletter and upped the volume of names and it seems to have scared off some of the regulars. Just by way of example last week featured 792 names, 77 of which met my basic criteria, about 25-30 of which were available by the time I ran them (which was 2 days afterwards.) I ended up registering a few of them, and for the time spent filtering -- about an hour -- it was worth it in what I'll eventually make on selling or building out the names.

Who is this NameClerk and how do I get these lists?

Just messing with you Frank. I am NameClerk, just using a different handle here at WF.

Anyone interested in getting the domain lists can sign up at the site in my sig. Look for "priority email lists" on the nav bar.

Max value is depending on the most someone is willing to pay. Flipping a domain would consist of the type in traffic. Or if the domain is one word it wouldnt matter, that's got premium value added by itself.

@casualcom

That's rich -- my sig blindness prevented me from even noticing your link. Oh and folks, be sure to check my sig for etc. etc. etc.
