How does one check/know a site has been indexed as duplicate content?

There are a lot of assumptions made of such indexing in a variety of blogs. Who to believe?

I would do the following:
Search a specific phrase on your page, i.e. a fragment of a sentence.

See what comes up on Google. If multiple results come up, then yes google is indexing the same content multiple times and most likely giving one of the sites less weight.

There isn't a specific way to see which result it is dinging more though.
