How is this guy still direct linking on Adwords?

I just read through this AMA in which the OP claims that he was currently (as of Jan. 2011) direct linking affiliate offers on Adwords with no problem. Granted, he could just be lying, but I don't understand why he'd take the time to lie about something so specific in an AMA.

Here's a link to the specific comment tree in which he discusses Adwords direct linking: mendozaaa comments on IAmA college student who makes 3-4 digits a day doing internet affiliate marketing online, AMAA.

What's up with this? Is this guy full of shit or has he found some loophole?

He's probably going to get banned. Maybe he's cloaking, but it's not going to last for long. Google hates affiliates.

this industry changes quickly. 1 yrs is like like 10 yrs in other businesses

btw - to answer your question: cloaking

Direct linking is allowed by Google. As long as your display URL matches the destination, you're good (they don't care about tracking redirects). The only question is whether your offer allows it. If you direct link, you'll be competing with anyone else direct linking to that offer's domain - that's the only issue.

that sums it up.

I believe only the highest bidder, pointing to a single domain is ever showed up(whether it's on search or GDN).

There isn't a rule against direct linking or affiliates. Just some rules that make adwords hostile environment for DLing affiliates.

Ah, gotcha. So basically you can still direct link on Adwords, it just won't look as pretty and will probably get you into a bidding war with another affiliate, reducing your chance of profitability.

That's what I got out of their T&C, yes.

Possibly you will get into war with the advertiser, making it really hard(impossible) thing to be profitable. That is if they even allow it of course.

But google may make arbitrary move and still ban you with no apparent reason. They might have one, but will not share it with you, which leaves bad taste in your mouth. Especially when you were just getting profitable.

no rebill, email submit and stuff like that is allowed. Also no direct gambling(poker affiliate sites are allowed I think though). And no adult. Just use common sense and you will know if it is allowed or not.

Also compliance on the landers is a bitch, I hear.

And if he was doing cps or less sleazy cpl financial offers, you can still run on adwords. They just don't like 99% of cpa network offers.
