Hey I know this will get some heat, but I have heard just so many "horror" stories about bad web designers that either couldn't get site up and running, cart issues, etc. Also the "hostage factor", once the web person/company has you on board you are basically a hostage. I have a friend who has a purse line maybe 100 different items, still can't get it done after months...

Question, it is hard to pin how, but if you had a site with say under 20 items, how much to build a solid site, and more importantly, how much per week/month to maintain such a site? PM me also if you have someone competent that is reasonable I will pass it on, thx.

I think Newbies get screwed all the time from web teams, but otoh it must be maddening to be on the other side as well.

Thanks!

If they know what they are doing they could get it up an running within a few weeks. possibly even a week.

As for maintenance thats going to vary widely depending on what services you require for upkeep, seo, social media, etc etc.

I've found that getting an ecommerce site from a company can cost between $1500 - $9000 really varies.

Or you could hire someone off vworker for a ecommerce site for about 800-900? (Not too big)

Hope that helped

Give her something to think about. (It's a 5 minute video)

It really can be as simple as the video in the link above sometimes. Of course the theme needed tweaking as well a few other things. But to have a working eCommerce site up and running functionally & able to take orders with her 100 items listed with pics & descriptions should take less than a week if one person was doing only that project.

Months? Something is really WRONG with that.

With only one product line that has only 100 different types she really shouldn't be having this hard of a time.

Go to Find Freelancers & Browse Freelance Professionals | Freelancer.com and have her look at the prices for projects similar to hers to get an idea of price and time involved with her project. Then maybe she could hire one of the more reputable Web Designers there.

Just be SURE that she is buying the RIGHTS to everything they create.

Then she can have it hosted anywhere she wants and have whoever she wants to maintain it as well.

It's hard to tell you what it SHOULD cost since there are so many variables involved with an eCommerce Site.

Here's a link to some of the projects being bid on right now to start her research with.
