I've got my colors, but deciding is so hard. I know nothing about logo design, but I would like to make it myself rather then hiring someone, especially since i'm running on 0 monies right now. I've just started my own local marketing business. It's registered and fully legal, the only thing i'm waiting on is my home occupational permit. Maybe there's a good tutorial or book, or pdf someone can recommend to help me become more knowledgeable on this topic. I'm going to have to create logos for my clients so this is a skill I would love to have.

Maybe fiverr?

If not a little photoshop and a lot of examples can go a long way. Go check out a ton of other logos from your within your industry and a bunch outside of it as well. Look at enough examples and you'll eventually come across a text effect or graphic you like enough and get inspired. Then crack open PS and get to work.

There are several free software programs you can use. I use CamStudio to capture screen shots and Windows Movie Maker to capture myself talking. Works like a bomb.

Not sure you want to start with a video logo and even if you use one on your site you're going to need the same logo in vector format or at least jpg.

Oh I dont want a video logo, I thought maybe they made the actual fonts with photoshop or gimp and then made the video with flash or blender.

Oh my goodness! You want to create logos for your clients but it sounds like you've never even taken a design class. You may be getting in to the wrong business.

As for your own logo, I'd recommend hiring a designer or at least getting a decent logo off of Fiverr to start off with. You want this business to be a long term venture, & successful at that. A poorly crafted logo will reflect badly on your business and making you look amateurish. Your logo & business name will stick with you & be on your window, door, business cards, & any advertising. Do it right to begin with. Make a good 1st impression.

And if you've never done design work, don't offer that as part of the bundle to your clients unless you've got a designer you can go to in order to provide your clients with quality work too. Focus on offering what you are good at rather than a half-baked bundle of goods/services.

As Thewinslow said, As this is your own company you will want the logo done right, if you are doing logo's for other people the Fiverr is a great place to start and make sure they have reviews.

If you are looking to do it yourself then a program like photo shop is a great program. There are many you tube videos on it and could help you greatly.

This is actually pretty good advice. I could see some people getting mad at this criticism, but it's very helpful. I would still like to do mine and I wont put it out there, if it's not good enough quality that's for sure. As far as my clients, I just wont offer logo design because I would spend too much time worrying about that. Thanks for the advice.

just another tip aswell. "Keep It Simple", so many people go way out. Look at this forum for starters. A simply face fire ball and it speaks the forums name. Pretty cool actually. Good luck by the way.

A badly home made logo will contemplate awfully on your enterprise and producing you gaze amateurish. Your logo & enterprise title will attach with you & be on your window, doorway, enterprise cards, & any advertising. Do it right to start with. Make a good 1st impression.

If you're looking at getting a logo done for an offline business, photoshop wouldn't be your best course of action.

Photoshop is a raster graphic tool and will only create raster graphics. These graphics are not supported by printers and will give you blurry, edgy prints.

Consider purchasing Adobe Illustrator, it is a recommended program to create vector graphics. Most printer will only accept vector files.

But since, you say, you're out of cash. I doubt you'd go the correct way of "purchasing it." So do what you want.

Once you acquire it, there are tonnes of tutorials on the Internet.

Go to 99designs.com , take a look at a bunch of logos and decide which one you like best and try to design a similar one for yourself.

Recently, I learned how to use Photoshop. It's really simple... find some great PSD's and edit it to match the colors of your website.

I made some very nice designs for my site and I am serious when I say it's very easy to learn!
