I built a site in a niche I don't give a fuck about, free non-customized theme, shit content, and yet it's outperforming everything in my portfolio. All I did was spend an hour building it, and it seems to be doing great (Adsense wise, I fucked up the phpBay config so who knows where that traffic was sent, but its all fixed up now).

When a site suddenly starts doing good, how do you figure out wtf happened? There is so many variables, I don't even know where to start. Is it possible that I just got lucky?

Its called "reverse engineering" a task that requires both experience and imagination. Noone can really give you anything but general advice unless they see the site. Dont be dumb and show it to anyone though.
What I can tell you is to simply copy the whole thing, except for the main keyword. Just switch that, and see how it performs.

Well after looking at everything, I realized this:

The structure of the site is different, however the meat of the site is the same as the others in my portfolio. I'd say I may have 30% more links (wp categories) which would mean there are 30% more pages, however google did a shit job of indexing the site.

I have no backlinks according to Yahoo, while my other sites have a good bit. However I am using an aged domain with decent keywords in it. So in conclusion of my investigation, search engines are putting a lot of weight on domain names these days.

Load a good stats plugin and see where the traffic's coming from, Counterize is a really good unknown one.

55% of the traffic is coming from Google. So I'm guessing that one day Google decided they liked my site, and are making it rank now. Still, the only thing that stands out is that this is an aged domain (I think its over a year old) compared to the other sites in my portfolio being fresh domains.

Setup Analytics (I use the Analytics plugin to make it easy). Track the keywords and traffic ect. The aged domain may help, but you possibly just hit the right keyword(s). It could be also that the theme you chose is more SEO friendly than the others.

I 100% agree with you shudogg. I just had a decent combination of everything you said to equal some success.

Now, please don't think this site is making a lot of money, however I think it can serve as a good foundation for a decent site. To bad I don't give a flying fuck about the subject.

i agree with shudogg, you probably just hit a good niche. you probably just randomly chose a niche with lower competition than your other sites.
