How to ensure a business pays you for your leads?

In a lot of posts here it recommends creating leads for businesses and getting paid for those. Some of them can be tracked by you and some can't. Say you create coupons on a website you build for them and they redeem those. The business can take the coupon, make money off your lead and not count it for you. Do you guys try to avoid those methods or do you just have to go on the honor system with some of the methods?

LOL honor system honor system LOL

*Even if you're zestfully clean, it doesn't guarantee you anything, suggest you keep reading the forum for a bit.

What should I search for? I don't know the terminology well enough yet. I should mention I meant this for local businesses.

Get #1 spot for - "drycleaner random city" rent it out. Repeat. It'll be easier to sell a spot than try to track some sort of conversion off-line.

I disagree. The businesses I've talked to want guarantees. When I talk to them about being ranked #1 on Google, their eyes glaze over. They don't think it'll bring them any business, even when I show them the number of searches for it.

Depends on the business and how well you sell it. $/sale is critical here. If they make $10 when a new customer walks in and they are paying several hundred a year for SEO, then yes, they want data and guarantees. A company that makes $10,000+ per new customer will toss your salad for the number one spot in google.

On the sales side, telling someone about # of searches causes their eyes to glaze over because they don't get paid in searches they get paid in dollars. You need to show them how that traffic will convert and what it means in dollars for them. Again, this is way the fuck easier on high dollar customers who are sales oriented anyway.

If you need data, depending on the client, simply going to a phone number/email submit, which the client will follow up on is an easy way to give them some data. This is very dependent on client type though, they need to be someone who already calls on clients.

Think about this when you're picking niches. Although you could drive some more pizza sales, how much more money are you really going to make bubba's pizza? You are only going to get a fraction of that. Now who can you make a lot of money for? These are the people who will not only pay you top dollar, but they are the ones who are easy to sell.

Another idea, don't sell your spot, just sell the leads. Collect info, auction it off.

Hmmmm, would it be possible to take the visitor's contact information before letting them download the coupon? Run a week trial, and follow up with each download to see if they redeemed the coupon at the store. Based on that -- establish how much each coupon downloaded is worth versus coupon redeemed. Renegotiate with client and charge them per download.

Complicated situation, maybe knowing what the industry is would help more.

Whatever industry. Ok, new idea. For most of these businesses (dentists, doctors, lasik eye, etc) they are appointment/call based. You CAN walkin, but most people don't. Get a call whispering service and charge based off that? I'll make them let me change their google listing to my call whispering number too.

Then they're pretty fucking retarded, otherwise you're explaining it wrong somehow

if you can provide volume to the customers (which, eventually they will want - or if you plan on expanding your lead sales to more than one company) - throw them a few for free.

Hit them up after you've given them enough time to follow through with the leads, and question them about buying more. if the company is worth their weight, and your leads aren't absolute shit, you should be in business.

Another method is to just get your foot in the door with another product or technique, and approach them about leads after you've already built a general rapport with that client.

either way, just get in front of the client, tell them what they want to hear, and make them bite. If they want nothing to do with it - or have a foul taste in their mouth because the last time they bought leads through "salesgenie" it just didnt work out, fuck off and go see their neighbor.

this is social engineering, it isn't rocket science.

If you really want to go down the lead route for a scenario such as this. I would build a lead distribution system that would allow people to log in and purchase leads that can be delivered in a variety of ways.

It would allow you to focus on building out your lead gen capabilities in other cities and focus on getting buyers in there.
