Hey there. I recently started a website to sell stuff on. I was told to use wordpress, but it isnt really working out. I added a store plugin, but when I tested it out, I clicked add to cart, but then theres no link to go to the cart.

I really really need help with getting my web stuff up to par

If you're not very technically inclined and just want to setup an ecommerce store as pain free as possible, I'd recommend going for a hosted solution. Look up shopify or bigcommerce.

To get started you will need tits, a spoon and an image host. Post back you have mastered what to do with these tools.

Start by finding out the difference between a blog, and a website. Then pick a tool for the job (you can make a tractor from a Ferrari, but why?). After you've spent a couple of months learning how 5 minute installs only make you feel like a rock star (instead of being one) you'll probably work out why you should just hire someone to do the job. If you don't even know how to select the right tool for the job - and you do build some traffic.... you'll discover security and good hosting are other things you should have learned (unlimited bandwidth don't mean what you think it means).
Or you can just buy an eBook from some "Warrior" - what the fuck would I know?

Just stick it out. Wordpress is one of the easiest platforms to work with and there is plenty of information for free on this forum and elsewhere.

Just plug away at it and when you have a question just do a search.

Wordpress is pretty darn easy, so work at it and you should be just fine

I think everyone understands your frustration with trying to figure something out. Wordpress is the easiest platform to work with on terms of usability, but you have to take the time to learn it.

And if your selling your own product I would certainly get a dedicated server as opposed to a shared host. This is not to mention, usin a CMS like Magento, Zen Cart, Cubecart. Wordpress is more of a blogging platform that can be used to make a website. Ecommerce is more complicated than what Wordpress has to offer. I am a Wordpress fanatic though.

Use Webplus X5. I'm a retarded alcoholic redneck, I've tried every platform out there. Most of them confuse me, even wordpress. I use webplus x4 (but I just bought x5) for all of my developing stuff. It's almost like digital scrapbooking.

1. Start with a clean slate or template.
2. Drag & Drop pictures, text blocks, adsese blocks, galleries, flash, ecommerce objects etc, navigation units, google analytics code.......
3. Clicky Clicky publish button.
4. Repeat!

I'm about to fire that bitch up right now rip out a emd. Man I love this hobby/job.
