I keep seeing people talk about how good it is to have images and videos on their blogs... can someone explain to me why this is good from a SE standpoint?

I make my blogs with no images or videos - its just all regular entries backed up by backlinks?

Is there some compelling reason why I should include videos and images on my blogs?

thanks

Don't use videos - Completely ruins CTR%

Images on the other hand I heard were "okay" to use - But I still wouldn't. I think you'd make more money with just a shitload of text and some links.

Don't forget to use the <b> <i> <u>

ok thanks - hmm I never use bold, italics, or underlining... am i supposed to be doing that on keyphrases lol? :hollering:

but try to have an attractive picture that reflects the mood and theme of your blog. not kust any random pic

I would think images in moderation is the key, I have a photo gallery that has the worst ctr in history I think, so just put enough to leave your viewers looking for a little more, and hopefully they will find that little more in your ads =]

I would definitely use some images, but don't overdo it. Not only is this bad from an SE point, it is overwhelming to look at. Videos are good as readers seem to really enjoy them along with a text blog post. However, for ranking purposes you'll want to have some actual text content in the post, not just a vid.

I just put up a big 800 x 600 'obey' button. Don't make em think, read, or make any choices! :hollering:

do you think videos kill the ctr% on non blog landing pages as well

Also with images make sure you name them something meaningful. Let's say you have an Acai offer for weight loss (which they all are...). If you have an image don't title it img0001.jpg - title it lose-weight-now.jpg or some other relevent long tail term.

Basically, some people don't "get" things as well without visual information being present. They need to see graphical representations, not just text. At the extreme, this may need to include facial expressions, body language, and other human signals. This is one reason why advertisements for products almost always focus on smiling happy people, rather than the product itself.

If, like me, you are not primarily a visual learner, you may find yourself irritated when a 15 second spot commercial only shows you the product for 1-2 second of the 15, and shows you manic, grinning people talking about it for the other 13 seconds. Likewise for print advertisements, which often feature either legalese or a brand logo (a related but different kind of magic) as the only text. This is what appeals to the majority of consumers, so this is the content they choose.
