1% conversion rate.. should I split test the ad that got the lead or just brush it off as a dud and move on to another niche?

I'd say it's early days. You need more clicks than that to attain statistical significance. Test a little more.

well, if those are direct to merchant, then you should twea your targeting.
Obviously, you are targeting the wrong people.

i thought 1% c/r was about right for clickbank products?? i've never done ppc to cb so i can't talk from experience but thats what i've read everytime i've read ebooks on the subject. 1% good 2-4% buy a new benz...

72 bucks on spending? Really not enough data... If you are promoting by Google, you've got a lot more keywords to test out. Then again DL... Facebook or Yahoo? Facebook is hard to get conversions off of Clickbank if you don't know what you are doing. I've seen some guys bank hard, hard, hard off of Clickbank on Facebook though. Targeting, targeting and more targeting.

keep testing, make a landing page that pre sells the offer. you might surprise yourself. I almost quit a campaign after direct linking failed miserably, I did a review landing page to see what would happen and it exploded.

^ seconded.

I always thought direct linking was good until I found out about the power of landing pages.

Make you landing page look SIMILAR to the offer and sell that stuff before they even click on the link.

Things that work:
- review page
- personal experience account
- "expert" page recommending the product
