I ran a lead gen offer with a network last month and I was just informed today (3 weeks after sending leads) that 25% of the leads had 'invalid' data. For the type of offer, I believe this simply means the lead was actually good but did not convert on their end. The leads were 100% compliant email traffic. This is costing me x,xxx and im not happy to find this out. Has this happened to anyone else and any advise to get some of those leads credited?

the TOS of the affiliate agreement will pretty much have you fucked. networks and merchants can withhold payment for bad leads.

not much transparency in this industry.

Welcome to affiliate marketing :laughing-smiley-007

That shit sucks, no reason why anyone should take 3 weeks to let you know that they are returning 25% of your leads. That's shady shit, period... Ask them for the list of returned leads asap then go through them, then state your case to the network. Networks are SUPPOSED to be a buffer for both sides so nobody screws the other over so they SHOULD mediate it and make it right. However, many networks are passing the buck more and more lately and not taking any risk and just fucking over the affiliate when the advertiser pulls a stunt like this or doesn't pay. Makes me wonder why they think they deserve the margin on the campaign when that is their position.

Btw, PM me the network name if you don't want to say it here. I may be able to help you out if I know them well. I have dealt with this kinda shit way too often.

Can you capture the lead before the submit and followup with a few that were rejected? I guess I would want to know if the lead was contacted in some fashion.

Well there's a viable reason for this "Sometimes". If the lead was to go to a call center floor or was there for someone to call and the phone number wasn't good. Really it is a bad lead for the purpose that they wanted it. 100% useless to them if the phone doesn't work.

But the time to discuss these things with your network/advertiser is before you send the traffic. Find out what sort of lead scrub there is. Typically I'd negotiate a max % with all leads to be given to you that are claimed to be bad for you to verify. Most of our lead deals we prenegotiate a lead scrub of some low % knowing there will be bad phone numbers. I prefer to not get scrubbed after the fact so I can find my margins. The "data lead" world is very different then the free trial, online lead type world and just make sure you understand before you start. If they say they want to a max scrub rate and return the bad leads to you then move on.
