I am unsure if I should focus only on affiliate marketing or pursue a more stable occupation? With google always changing can I feel comfortable putting my livelyhood in the hands of it?

So you are saying it isn't smart to let affiliate marketing be your source of income? How can you make a full time income on the Internet if you can't ever trust it? Or where there always be a way to rank sites no matter what?

What ToddW is saying is that your perception of traffic sources is very limited.
I use to think that Google was the owner of the Internet, but after so many updates, finally I got tired of this chasing game; use social media, PPC, commenting in related websites, videos, podcasts, magazines, buy ads, create viral content. Open your eyes and stop being Google's bitch.

try to diversity your traffic source ... so that you wont be affected so much on next google updates

Affiliate marketing isn't stable if you just make money chasing the hottest offers and copy other people's landing pages / ads.

Learn to develop a system for creating profitable campaigns and actually learn skills. No matter how much affiliate marketing changes, it's still buy traffic+track+optimize.

As long as the internet exists, people will want to find dates online, check their credit reports, want to make money easy, want to lose weight, etc.

Anyone that can't keep up well...not everyone's built for this industry.

Would you recommend a college education for an affiliate marketer or to just rely on the resources of the Internet, forums, programs, etc to learn? I know the Internet is changing constantly but do you think there are any skills that you really should have that will make it a lot easier to be in this business? Keep in mind I am currently a senior in high school and have a private school education my entire life. That being said, I believe I am currently more advanced academically because I do believe private school education typically has a harder curriculum. Some may disagree and that's okay, we all have our own opinions

No campaign will stay for years. At least I have not experienced it.

If you are looking regularly for new products to promote, fresh angles, new ideas etc. you will definately be able to stable your income somehow. Following hot trends only, being always the second one to launch (or rip) a campaign won't work in longterm. Especially not if you're looking for a stable business.

But please stop to think a college education will bring you millions in AM. Enough examples of guys without any education can be found who made it. Work hard, get smarter.

So you are strongly suggesting me going to college or are you saying will help a lot but it can all be learned online and over the course of time?

My recommendation for you is to stay in academia. You won't make it elsewhere.

Learn to serve food. People who do IM are always going to need people who serve food = stability.

No stable IM.

If you consider having the ability to adapt to different ways of advertising, improve conversion funnels and generate product sales, then yes, affiliate marketing is very stable.

That's kinda the answer i was looking for and I was definitely hoping for that so thanks. I know sometimes it may be tough to get traffic and rank etc but I know that there will always be ways you just have to find and implement them. Thanks
