Hey all. After too long lurking and over-analysing, I finally have a project online. I haven't done any IM before, so this is my first experience of it all. I'm starting slowly and project one will being an Adsense equipped blog. I know there is much, much more to IM than this, but this is just to get me started. This is what I've done so far...

  • Found a few keywords with decent search volumes and low competition using Market Samurai.
  • Purchased a domain that matches my main keyword.
  • Writted and uploaded a dozen keyword optimized articles.
  • Started generating backlinks for these and the main domain using Ping Kaching.
  • Traffic is low and Google rank for #1 keyword is bouncing around, topping out at 17 so far but it's definitely early days still.

Here's what I plan to do next...

  • Trial an article writer or two from the WF services forum. Work is crazy busy at the moment and I don't mind spending money to make money, rather than not progress this project at all!
  • Look at my options regarding SERP and backlink development. This is area I know least about at the moment, and the services offered here are so numerous/detailed that I don't know what to choose. I'll keep reading into it but I would appreciate some advice.

The Aim... to be generating £10/day in 60 days time. That's the plan anyway. I don't know how possible it is, but you need something to aim for right!

This will be my journal and I'll keep it updated with everything that I do.

Good luck to you all with your ventures and thanks for reading.

Good luck. You are making moves in the right direction. I did far too much reading and not enough doing. You'll do fine and learn far more failing than you will reading others successes.

ManVsWorld, glad to see you've made the first step in making Internet monies! Make damn sure you keep this newbie journal updated. Chock it full with your progress, frustrations and questions. If people see that you're willing to put the time in to progress in this industry, they'll be more inclined to give you a helping hand.

With regards to the snippet of your original post that I've quoted, there are two quotes that come to mind. 1) "Reach for the stars, 'cause even if you miss, you won't come up with a hand full of mud," and 2) "If you can conceive it, you can achieve it."

Good luck!

$10 per day can be hard unless the keywords your targeting get a lot of traffic (more than 20k) or your niche has a high CPC (figure this out by dividing the CPC in Google's keyword tool by 2.) Good luck!

Had a realisation today that I could definitely rank at #1 for my chosen keyword, but even if I did the level of traffic would be too small to be useful. Dam this is hard. What I'm finding most frustrating at the moment is that I have the time, dedication and resources to be a success at this, but the amount of information is overwhelming. I'll all for just going for it and seeing what happens, but even then you need some idea of what to do!

Looks like I'm back at step one and hunting for a keyword/phrase to target. See my post here for my question about defining a potentially profitable keyword.

I will not give up, that is for certain. I just need to get my head round all the steps I need to take and formulate a plan of attack.

Here's today's motivational quote that's keeping me going. It comes courtesy of Ludacris - Mouths To Feed

I'm a monster in this game, I turn 20 into 50,
50 to a hundred and a hundred to a Bentley.
A Bentley to a building and a building to a 'scraper,
Can't keep up with the news but I get that Daily Paper

"Knowing" and "doing" are two different things. Targeting an easily achievable keyword is just what you do when you start out. It's a crawl before you walk thing. I am no pro (yet) but I remember doing what you are doing now and it is a waste of time. You might think it isn't, but trust me, it is. Just hit that keyword hard until you get the first spot, and then move on to the next one. If they are really low comp then go after a few at a time.

I seriously feel like I can remember thinking the exact same thing you describe not even a year ago. I know it can feel overwhelming and like you really need to plan out every single detail, you might be worried about your site getting penalized or deindexed, or working hard for no money. These are all failures everyone is afraid of having happen when they get started. They are also failures that everyone who makes money has already experienced, in some cases they have experienced it many, many times. For you, they are just procrastination.

How long do you think the "pros" spend on keyword research, or writing content, or SEO? Run your shit like a business, convince yourself it actually matters if you get this or that done today, and execute. The real world runs on deadlines - if shit isn't getting done then there will be no progress.

Finally, if you haven't ever ranked anything before, you need to just rank something. Rank a fucking hubpage for a keyphrase no human would ever search for. The best learning comes from experience and you are not experiencing shit. You can read till your eyes bleed but if you were never there then you still don't know wtf you're talking about.

Respect, my friend, respect.
