mods: i feel like i've been spamming since this is now my 3rd post about shopping carts/merchant accounts in not too much time. feel free to merge those threads with this...this one has more info. or you could just lock them.
i am starting a dietary supplement company that will not be doing rebills. if somebody wants to buy 3 bottles, they buy three and that's it. we're selling a single dietary supplement and we are only going to sell it on our website. i have no credit, but have plenty of cash, so i'm wondering how this is going to work out for me. we're well prepared for most other aspects but we're slacking when it comes to this checkout/accepting payments thing...ha.
we're looking for a fast shopping cart that is easy on the eyes and optimal for a single product store. any recommendations in that regard, or any regard, will help!
below is my thought process. since i knew nothing about processing payments until yesterday, much of this is probably wrong. but, that's why i'm typing it, please tell me if i'm wrong about anything!
1) so, in order to accept payments on our website we need these three things, correct? 1) merchant account 2) payment gateway 3) shopping cart software. just those three, nothing else? and they are three SEPARATE things.
2) these things all need to work with each other, correct?
3) we are using Webgistix for fulfillment. the shopping cart has to be compatible with Webgistix, correct?
4) not only this, but i will need somebody that knows how to install all of this into our website, correct? and whoever is making our website can probably do this i guess?
5) i've heard a lot of bad things about paypal. at the same time, i'd like to use paypal. so i'm wondering if i could have a merchant account/payment gateway/shopping cart setup, and still also have paypal as an option? i guess what i'm saying is, i'd like to have a backup way of accepting payments should something unforeseen happen (for some reason), and i'm still getting traffic...i'm just not sure what is the best way to go about it. does this sound like a viable option? paypal's website payments pro + some other merchant/gateway combo in case shit hits the fan?
6) this is how i see the checkout process working on the site: customer clicks on a call-to-action button on the main page and is directed to a checkout page. on this page the customer can confirm how many bottles he wants to purchase. he can fill out his contact information details. i want the fields to very large! i don't want the customer to have to fill out too much. it should be fucking easy. he/she clicks submit and is taken to a page where they are able to input credit card details. he/she clicks submit again and is taken to an order confirmation page. he/she clicks submit and is taken to a thank you page...letting the customer know that their order has been placed and that they will be receiving an email confirmation shortly. is that thought process about right?
7) i take it time can be an issue with some of these shopping carts (some are too slow). does that mean i need a dedicated server? keep in mind i have no idea how this product is going to sell. maybe i should just prepare for that event.
8) also i take customizing these shopping carts can be sort of a pain depending on which one you select. so i will basically need to hire somebody to do this since i can't program, correct? what kind of job post would i make on elance/etc. for this?
